This study explores the deoxygenation of pyridine -oxides and presents a one-step photoredox method for the direct synthesis of 2-hydroxymethylated pyridines from pyridine -oxides. Mechanism studies elucidate the role of the catalyst and provide evidence of the possible electron transfer process and the formation of key radicals. A range of pyridine derivatives, particularly 2-hydroxymethyl-substituted pyridines, which may be difficult to obtain, can be synthesized in a single step.

The chemical looping co-gasification of nitrogen-containing algal biomass and coal could effectively realize the high-value utilization of gasification products, but the mechanism of conversion of nitrogen-containing pollutants is not clear. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as toluene, are hazardous air pollutants that pose significant health and environmental risks. This study addresses remediation of toluene by developing a bifunctional nitrogen-doped biochar (NDB) activated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), aimed at reducing toluene emissions through both adsorption and catalytic oxidation. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a type of hemorrhagic stroke, and the neuroprotective effects of nimodipine following SAH have been well-documented. Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3), a mitochondrial nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent deacetylase, plays a significant role in mitigating oxidative stress in various neurodegenerative conditions. However, the role of SIRT3 in the neuroprotective mechanisms of nimodipine after SAH remains unclear.
