The human "low serum IgD phenotype" was studied by simultaneous Gm typing and IgD immunoassay of several populations. An association between Gm (f+b+) haplotype and low human IgD was confirmed and extended to the "low serum IgD phenotype"--as defined from population distribution and genetic studies by Dunnette et al. 1978. Further, it was shown that Black American sera determined by Gm haplotype, had a similar percentage of "low serum IgD phenotype" samples (16%) although they lacked the "associated" Gm(f+b+) haplotype of White American samples. Sardinian sera showed a low incidence of the "low serum IgD phenotype" which was not correlated with Gm haplotype distribution. Familial aggregation of the "low serum IgD phenotype" was observed. No association was found between "low serum IgD phenotype" and serum IgE values. Age related abiotrophy of IgD could not be attributed to selective survival of "low serum IgD phenotype" persons.

Background: Chronic inflammation is involved in the development of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). A tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) within vascular lesions has recently been focused on for its role in modulation of inflammation in local tissues. We aimed to elucidate the relationships between TLS and pathophysiology of AAA.

Objectives: To investigate whether biomarkers related to B cell activation and autoantibody production are associated with the response to abatacept in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.

Methods: Twenty-five patients with RA were enrolled in this study. Responders (n=10) to abatacept were subjects who achieved ACR50 response at week 24.

Pandemic infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) caused by severe acute IHN virus (IHNV) threatens rainbow trout aquaculture in China. Therefore, it is crucial to develop effective vaccines and elucidate their mechanisms of action. Here, we revealed the mechanism of immune response of Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) combined with IHNV inactivated vaccine on rainbow trout spleen by serum enzyme activity assay, histopathological analysis, RNA-seq and viral load measurement.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, multifactorial, inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which involves an autoimmune response against components of the myelin sheaths. Anti-B cell therapies have been proven to be successful in reducing relapses. Therefore, the study of B cells in both phases of the disease (relapse and remission) is of great importance.

The protective effect of higher serum triacylglycerol (51:4) levels against Parkinson's disease.

Br J Nutr

Department of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery Research Institute, The First Affiliated Hospital, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou 350005, Fujian, China.

Emerging evidence has shown a strong correlation between serum triacylglycerol (TAG) levels, the inflammatory response, and Parkinson's disease (PD) onset. However, the causal relationship between TAG levels and PD has not been well-established. We aimed to investigate the relationship between serum TAG levels and risk of PD and explore the potential mediating role of circulating immune cells and inflammatory proteins.
