Background: Incomplete mesorectal excision during rectal cancer surgery often leads to positive circumferential margins, with uncertain prognostic impacts. This study examines whether negative margins can mitigate the poorer prognosis typically associated with incomplete total mesorectal excision (TME) in rectal cancer surgery, thus potentially challenging the prevailing emphasis on complete mesorectal excision.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent proctectomy for rectal adenocarcinoma with incomplete TME at a single center from 2010 to 2022.

Goals of care discussions are poorly defined and inhibited by clinician apprehension, prognostic uncertainty, and discomfort from both sides. In the delivery of bad news, protocol-based discussions have proven beneficial, yet no such protocol exists for goals of care discussions in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Extrapulmonary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (EP-SCNC) is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis. Despite its morphological similarity to lung small cell carcinomas, its oncogenesis remains uncertain. One hundred and seventy-one EP-SCNC were enrolled in a multicenter study, and all tissue samples underwent an immunohistochemical p53 analysis.

Sepsis is a life-threatening severe organ dysfunction, and the pathogenesis remains uncertain. Increasing evidence suggests that circRNAs, mRNAs, and microRNAs can interact to jointly regulate the development of sepsis. Identifying the interaction between ceRNA regulatory networks and sepsis may contribute to our deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of sepsis, bring new insights into early recognition and treatment of sepsis.
