Spectroscopic properties of Tb-doped and Tb-Ag codoped lithium tetraborate (LTB) glasses with LiBO (or LiO-2BO) composition are investigated and analysed using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), optical absorption, photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra, PL decay kinetics and absolute quantum yield (QY) measurements. PL spectra of the investigated glasses show numerous narrow emission bands corresponding to the D → F (J = 6-0) and D → F (J = 5-3) transitions of Tb (4f) ions. The most intense PL band of Tb ions at 541 nm (D → F transition) is characterised by a lifetime slightly exceeding 2.6 ms. PL spectra of the Ag-containing glass show two broad weakly resolved emission bands in the violet-green spectral range attributed to Ag ions and nonplasmonic Ag nanoclusters. Decay kinetics of these bands are nonmonoexponential, characterised by an average lifetime in the microsecond range. A significant enhancement of the PL intensity and PL QY of Tb ions was observed in Tb-Ag codoped LTB glass in comparison with Tb-doped LTB glass. The excitation energy transfer (EET) mechanisms from Ag ions and Ag nanoclusters to Tb ions were explored.

Cryogels were fabricated by combining polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan of varying molecular weights (Mw). In this study, the effects of chitosan Mw, types of boron-containing molecules on network formation, and boron release rate in resulted cryogels were investigated. The PVA/chitosan blend maintained a constant 4.

Foam-based wound dressing materials produced by dispersing gas phases in a polymeric material are soft, adapt to the body shape, and allow the absorption of wound exudate due to their porous structure. Most of these formulations are based on synthetic substances such as polyurethane. However, biopolymers have entered the field as a new player thanks to their biocompatible and sustainable nature.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of a Persian Medicine herbal formula and a Traditional Chinese Medicine intervention (acupuncture) on the improvement of weight and anthropometric indices of overweight patients.

Methods: This study was a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind clinical trial. A total of 200 overweight patients were randomly divided into 4 groups receiving either (1) Herbal capsule, (2) placebo capsule, (3) acupuncture, or (4) sham acupuncture.

The measurement of selected norepinephrine metabolites, such as 3,4-dihydroxyphenylglycol (DHPG), 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylethylenglycol (MHPG), and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA), in biological matrices-including urine-is of great clinical importance for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. This fact has forced researchers to evaluate new analytical methodologies for their isolation and preconcentration from biological samples. In this study, the three most popular extraction techniques-liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), solid-phase extraction (SPE), and a new 3D-printed system for dispersive solid-phase extraction (3D-DSPE)-were investigated.
