Background: Thymic cysts can be classified as congenital or acquired. Most thymic cysts do not change in size over a short period of time. Although very rare, thymic cyst rupture is associated with serious complications, such as mediastinal hemorrhage and hemothorax.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) includes conditions with autoimmune genesis, which are manifested by attacks of optic neuritis (ON) and transverse myelitis (TM), and also express aquaporin 4 (NMO-IgG) or myelin oligo-endocytic glycoprotein (MOGAb) antibodies. In rare cases, the disease may also have a clinical presentation with only TM, without ON or with ON, without TM. These conditions are also included in the spectrum.

Objective: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after cardiac surgery that is associated with other adverse outcomes. Recent studies have shown that drainage of pericardial effusion by a posterior pericardial incision reduces the incidence of POAF. An alternative approach is a chest tube placed posteriorly in the pericardium.
