Carbon dots (CDs) mediated g-CN (CN) is a promising visible-light-driven semiconductor in catalyzing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for aqueous contaminants remediation. However, the poor dispersibility of powered catalyst and its challenging recyclability impede their broader application. Herein, we embedded FeN bridge within the g-CN framework and immobilized g-CN gel beads (CA/FNCCN) through a 3D cross-linking process with sodium alginate. Alginate can serve as a stabilizing carrier, preserving the crystalline structure of FNCCN through the formation of H bonds between alginate and FNCCN. The resulting beads displayed significantly improved photo-electrochemical performance, along with greatly enhanced adsorption capacity and catalytic activity toward Sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The catalytic efficiency of CA/FNCCN was markedly increased as compared to non-immobilized FNCCN due to reduced photo-carrier recombination and accelerated electron transport. CA/FNCCN-1 can degrade 99.18 % of SMX within 40 mins, with noteworthy reduced Fe leaching. The primary active species in the system were O and h, and the direct electron transfer between PMS and SMX mediated by alginate also contributed to the removal of SMX. Additionally, the degradation pathway of SMX was elucidated through LC-MS and DFT calculations. Simultaneously, FNCCN integrated alginate hydrogel can remain active without decay after 10 cycles.

Alginates are abundant linear polysaccharides produced by brown algae and some bacteria. They have multiple biological roles and important medical and commercial uses. Alginates are comprised of D-mannuronic acid (M) and L-guluronic acid (G) and the ratios and distribution patterns of M and G profoundly impact their physiological and rheological properties.

Objectives: For designing a suitable hydrogel, two crosslinked Alginate/ Carboxymethyl cellulose (Alg/CMC) hydrogel, using calcium chloride (Ca) and glutaraldehyde (GA) as crosslinking agents were synthesized and compared.

Materials And Methods: All samples were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Blood compatibility (BC), Blood clotting index (BCI), weight loss (WL), water absorption (WA), pH, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Cell viability and cell migration were investigated using the MTT assay and the wound scratch test, respectively.

A soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based hydrogel with controllable properties was prepared under mild conditions using a simple mixing method with dialdehyde sodium alginate (DSA) as an eco-friendly macromolecular crosslinker. DSA was successfully synthesized via periodate oxidation. Analysis of the structure of the SPI/DSA hydrogel indicated that a 3D network was formed between SPI and DSA through dynamic imine and hydrogen bonds.

Carotenoids, recognized for their antioxidant and anti-aging properties, are commonly used in functional foods. To enhance the application of fucoxanthin (FX) in the food industry, this study employed the ion gel method for encapsulating FX and combined it with raw materials such as Undaria pinnatifida homogenate and apple pieces to create freeze-dried crunchy chunks. The study evaluated the effects of encapsulated-FX on the functional and structural characteristics of the Undaria pinnatifida and apple freeze-dried chunks over accelerated storage period under high temperature and humidity.

The study aimed to investigate the stability and anti-allergic efficacy of phycocyanin through the construction of microcapsules. Phycocyanin (PC), a blue pigment found in microalgae, has attracted significant attention due to its anti-allergic properties. However, it is susceptible to instability when exposed to light, heat, and changes in pH.
