Background: A 69-year-old retired businessman, born in 1954, with 12 years of education, had been participating in cognitive enhancement sessions for the past 5 years. His medical history included two ischemic strokes, left hemiplegia, as well as disturbances in the left visual field. Background: One in four persons living with dementia are admitted to hospital, presenting challenges to them, their carers and staff. Despite global evidence demonstrating the clinical and cost-effectiveness of person-centered care (PCC), it is not yet business as usual across healthcare settings. Objective: Our study investigates the efforts of local medical health officers during COVID-19 in Canada, with a focus on explicating enabling factors and barriers to effectively respond through local public health efforts.
Methods: We conducted 26 semi-structured interviews with local-level public health leadership from across Canada and analyzed the transcripts for salient facilitators and barriers to effective local public health practice using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research.
Results: Effective local-level public health practice was facilitated by efforts that potentiated synergistic efforts inside and outside of the public health sector, including trust, buy-in, and ample resources.

A novel approach to expedite evidence to impact in pre-eclampsia: co-developed policy labs in Zambia and Sierra Leone.

Pre-eclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and neonatal mortality; 30,000 pre-eclampsia-related maternal deaths occur annually, with 70% in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and 16% in South Asia. We have shown that early, accurate detection of hypertension combined with planned early delivery in women with late preterm pre-eclampsia significantly reduces stillbirth and severe maternal hypertension. We describe co-development and delivery of policy labs, working with The Policy Institute (King's College London), and local stakeholders in Sierra Leone and Zambia, to expedite integration of new knowledge into pre-eclampsia care pathways, to improve care for women and babies with the worst outcomes.
