Background: The levels of β-amyloid precursor protein (β-APP), tau protein, and phosphorylation of tau (p-tau) protein were examined by quantitative immunohistochemistry in the spinal cord sections of mice suffering from experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in the successive phases of the disease: onset, peak, and chronic.

Methods: EAE was induced in C57BL/6 mice by immunization with MOG35-55 peptide. The degree of pathological changes was assessed in cross-sections of the entire spinal cord.

Results: β-APP expression was observed in the white matter and colocalized with some Iba-1-positive macrophages/microglia. It increased in the peak phase of EAE and remained at the same level in the chronic phase. During the onset and peak phases of EAE, expression of tau protein was observed in nerve fibers and nerve cell perikaryons, with a predominance of nerve fibers, whereas in the chronic phase, tau was labeled mainly in the perikaryons of nerve cells, with its content significantly decreased. P-tau immunostaining was seen only in nerve fibers.

Conclusions: The expression of p-tau increased with the progression of EAE, reaching the maximum in the chronic phase. The correlation between these proteins and neurodegeneration/neuroinflammation highlights their potential roles in the progression of neurodegenerative mechanisms in MS.

Introduction: We integrated plasma biomarkers from the Taiwan Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative and propose a workflow to identify individuals showing amyloid-positive positron emission tomography (PET) with low/intermediate tau burden based on [18F]Florzolotau PET-based quantification.

Methods: We assessed 361 participants across the Alzheimer's disease (AD) and non-AD continuum and measured plasma phosphorylated tau (p-tau)217, p-tau181, amyloid beta (Aβ)42/40 ratio, neurofilament light chain, and glial fibrillary acidic protein levels at two medical centers. We evaluated the diagnostic potential of these biomarkers.

Department of Neurology, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China.

Introduction: We investigated the specific factors driving abnormal angiogenesis in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its role in cerebrovascular lesions and neurodegeneration.

Methods: We assessed cerebrovascular pathologies, amyloid-beta (Aβ), and tau pathologies in post mortem human brains and detected 12 angiogenic factors in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the China Aging and Neurodegenerative Disease Initiative (CANDI) cohort.

Results: We observed severe blood-brain barrier damage and elevated levels of the vascular marker CD31 in human AD brains, which had a stronger correlation with tau pathology than Aβ pathology.

High-fat diet (HFD) consumption disrupts the gut microbiome, instigating metabolic disturbance, brain pathology, and cognitive decline via the gut-brain axis. Probiotic and prebiotic supplementation have been found to improve gut microbiome health, suggesting they could be effective in managing neurodegenerative disorders. This study explored the potential benefits of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum 20174 (L.

A hallmark of Alzheimer disease (AD) and tauopathies, severe neurodegenerative diseases, is the progressive aggregation of Tau, also known as microtubule-associated Tau protein. Full-length Tau, also known as 2N4R, contains two N-terminal inserts that bind to tubulin. This facilitates the self-assembly of tubulin simultaneously enhancing stability of cell microtubules.

Despite adjuvant treatment with endocrine therapies, estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancers recur in a significant proportion of patients. Recurrences are attributable to clinically undetectable endocrine-tolerant persister cancer cells that retain tumor-forming potential. Therefore, strategies targeting such persister cells may prevent recurrent disease.
