Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the eating habits of the general population, among other reasons, because it has affected access to commercial establishments since some of them closed. This study aimed to describe potential changes that occurred between 2019 and 2022 in the availability and affordability of food and beverages in the food environment of a Brazilian public university.

Methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study conducted at a public university located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Audits were carried out in all establishments selling food and beverages at the university's main campus in 2019 and 2022. Descriptive analysis with frequencies and means was carried out and the 95% confidence intervals were compared.

Results: Over the period, there was a decrease in the on-campus number of establishments, dropping from 20 to 14, and ultra-processed foods became more prevalent. In general, the decrease in the number of establishments led to a reduction in the supply of fresh or minimally processed foods and beverages, and higher average prices were noted.

Conclusions: The pandemic seems to have deteriorated the availability and the prices of healthy food in the university food environment, making healthy choices harder for students and the university community.

Background: Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a major disease affecting cereal crops including wheat, barley, rye, oats and maize. Its predominant causal agent is the ascomycete fungus Fusarium graminearum, which infects the spikes and thereby reduces grain yield and quality. The frequency and severity of FHB epidemics has increased in recent years, threatening global food security.

Naegleria fowleri, the causative agent of Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), is commonly found in warm freshwater environments and can enter the brain through nasal passages during activities like swimming or ablution. PAM has a high fatality rate, raising concerns about its global health impact. In Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, a significant number of cases have been reported, often with no history of recreational water exposure, but with regular ablution using tap water.

Maize (Zea mays L.) faces significant challenges to its growth and productivity from heavy metal stress, particularly Chromium (Cr) stress, which induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and damages photosynthetic tissues. This study aimed to investigate the effects of fulvic acid (FA) application, via foliar spray or root irrigation, on mitigating chromium stress in maize by evaluating its impact on antioxidant activity and growth parameters.

The close genetic resemblance between Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria innocua, combined with their presence in similar environments, poses challenges for species-specific detection in food products. Ensuring food safety through microbiological standards necessitates reliable detection of pathogens like L. monocytogenes and L.

Integrating genomic, hyperspectral imaging (HSI), and environmental data enhances wheat yield predictions, with HSI providing detailed spectral insights for predicting complex grain yield (GY) traits. Incorporating HSI data with single nucleotide polymorphic markers (SNPs) resulted in a substantial improvement in predictive ability compared to the conventional genomic prediction models. Over the course of several years, the prediction ability varied due to diverse weather conditions.
