Leveraging Virtual Containers for High-Powered, Collaborative AI Research in Radiology.

Published: November 2024

Numerous obstacles confront radiologists interested in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) models within the field of radiology. For example, discrepancies between the radiologist's and an AI developer's hardware and software specifications pose a substantial hindrance to using AI models. Additionally, accessing and using GPU computers can lead to compatibility issues and add to these challenges. Finally, the dissemination of AI models and the ability to download preexisting AI models are not simple tasks due to the size and complexity of most programs. Virtual containers offer a solution to such compatibility issues and provide a simplified way for radiologists to use AI models. Virtual containers are software tools that bundle code, required programs, and necessary software packages to ensure that a program runs identically for all users, regardless of their computing environment. This article outlines the features of virtual containers (compatibility, versatility, and portability) and highlights an applied use case for virtual containers in the development of an AI model.

Processing pathways between sensory and default mode network (DMN) regions support recognition, navigation, and memory but their organisation is not well understood. We show that functional subdivisions of visual cortex and DMN sit at opposing ends of parallel streams of information processing that support visually mediated semantic and spatial cognition, providing convergent evidence from univariate and multivariate task responses, intrinsic functional and structural connectivity. Participants learned virtual environments consisting of buildings populated with objects, drawn from either a single semantic category or multiple categories.

Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) based on density functional theory (DFT) and self-consistent field (SCF) calculations has become widely used for understanding intermolecular interactions. This work reports a new approach to EDA for post-SCF wave functions based on closed-shell restricted second-order Mo̷ller-Plesset (MP2) together with an efficient implementation that generalizes the successful SCF-level second-generation absolutely localized molecular orbital EDA approach, ALMO-EDA-II, and improves upon MP2 ALMO-EDA-I. The new MP2 ALMO-EDA-II provides distinct energy contributions for a frozen interaction energy containing permanent electrostatics and Pauli repulsions, polarized energy-yielding induced electrostatics, dispersion-corrected energy, and the fully relaxed energy, which describes charge transfer.

The formation of novel complexes from so far non-investigated ligands and different metal centers is important for the development of new functional materials such as (photo)catalysts or biologically active compounds. Still, promising strategies to quickly and systematically investigate the complexation behavior of selected ligands are rare. We developed an NMR-based screening approach to monitor changes within reaction mixtures containing metals and ligands on a small scale a simple but reliable protocol.

Computed tomography dataset virtual dissection for sternal re-entry in congenital cardiac surgery.

Indian J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

February 2025

Department of Paediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, Rao Saheb, Achutrao Patwardhan Marg, Four Bungalows, Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400053 India.

Unlabelled: In congenital heart surgery, redo-sternotomies are very common. In most cases, sternal re-entry is achieved without serious complications. However, sometimes elective institution of peripheral cardiopulmonary bypass is needed for safe sternotomy, albeit with a long cardio-pulmonary bypass time.

The ant genus are fascinating ants due to their distinctive morphology, ecology, and rarity. In this study, a comprehensive revision of in the Afrotropical region is presented, through a combination of morphological examination under the light microscope and three-dimensional (3D) cyber-taxonomy based on microtomography (micro-CT). Micro-CT based 3D surface models of all species were used for virtual morphological visualisation and examination.
