This paper describes a new species of Halamphora - and records for the first time for the coasts of Indonesia. The study utilized light and scanning electron microscopy to meticulously examine the morphology. These species were found at Kuta Beach on the island of Lombok in Indonesia in highly saline sandy environments. The newly identified species, , is characterized by its semi-lanceolate to narrowly semi-elliptic shape with a straight ventral and convex dorsal margin. The study contributes to our understanding of marine diatom flora in Indonesia's coastal regions.

Unlabelled: iKaluk, Inuttitut for Arctic charr (), holds significant commercial and cultural value for Inuit communities throughout Nunatsiavut. Studies evaluating iKaluk habitat associations in freshwater are plentiful; however, there is limited information on the ecological makeup and sediment characteristics of anadromous charr habitats in marine environments. This study investigated the benthic associations of Arctic charr during their marine residency period in Nain, Nunatsiavut, using underwater videos, harvester-identified fishing locations, and acoustic telemetry.

Nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses (NCLDVs) are known to infect phytoplankton and play a significant role in regulating their population dynamics. In this study, we aimed to investigate the co-occurrence patterns between phytoplankton and NCLDVs in the southern coastal ecosystem of South Korea. We collected seawater every month from March 2018 to December 2020 and analyzed the samples using Cytochrome c Oxidase subunit I metabarcoding and metagenomic analyses.

Dormancy is a wide-spread key life history trait observed across the tree of life. Many plankton species form dormant cells stages that accumulate in aquatic sediments and under anoxic conditions, form chronological records of past species and population dynamics under changing environmental conditions. Here we report on the germination of a microscopic alga, the abundant marine diatom Skeletonema marinoi that had remained dormant for up to 6871 ± 140 years in anoxic sediments of the Baltic Sea and resumed growth when exposed to oxygen and light.

The drug loading capacity is a critical performance metric for drug delivery systems. A high capacity ensures efficient drug delivery to target sites at lower doses, reducing the amount of carrier material needed and lessening patient burden. However, improving drug loading capacity in diatom frustule-based systems remains a challenge.
