Achievement of duodenal ulcer remission by vedolizumab in children with eosinophilic gastroenteritis.

Clin J Gastroenterol

January 2025

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Saitama Children's Medical Center, 1-2 Shintoshin, Chuo-ku, Saitama, 3308777, Japan.

Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) are treated with corticosteroids and food allergen elimination. However, treatment for refractory cases is not standardized. We demonstrate the efficacy of vedolizumab, an anti-α4β7 integrin agent, in 2 children with duodenal ulcers developed by non-eosinophilic esophagitis EGIDs.

Hypoplasia of the upper jaw to one degree or another inevitably occurs in patients with cleft lip and palate. The most difficult task is to fix skeletal deformity of the upper jaw, especially the discrepancy between its transversal dimensions due to the high risks of recurrence after treatment. One of the key stages of rehabilitation of this group of patients is orthodontics and surgical treatment aimed at eliminating functional and aesthetic problems of the dental system.

Cross-patient seizure prediction via continuous domain adaptation and similar sample replay.

Cogn Neurodyn

December 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, 230001 China.

Seizure prediction based on electroencephalogram (EEG) for people with epilepsy, a common brain disorder worldwide, has great potential for life quality improvement. To alleviate the high degree of heterogeneity among patients, several works have attempted to learn common seizure feature distributions based on the idea of domain adaptation to enhance the generalization ability of the model. However, existing methods ignore the inherent inter-patient discrepancy within the source patients, resulting in disjointed distributions that impede effective domain alignment.

A tactfully designed photothermal agent collaborating with ascorbic acid for boosting maxillofacial wound healing.

Natl Sci Rev

February 2025

Department of Oral Implantology, The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base of Research, Prevention and Treatment for Oral Diseases. Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center of Stomatological Translational Medicine, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing 210029, China.

Maxillofacial injuries that may cause severe functional and aesthetic damage require effective and immediate management due to continuous exposure to diverse microbial populations. Moreover, drug resistance, biofilm formation, and oxidative stress significantly impede timely bacterial removal and immune function, making the exploration of advanced materials for maxillofacial wound healing an appealing yet highly challenging task. Herein, a near-infrared photothermal sterilization agent was designed, encapsulated with liposomes and coated with ascorbic acid known for its antioxidant and immune-regulatory functions.

The extinction burst is an increase in an operant behavior early in the transition to extinction. A matching-law-based quantitative theory suggests that it results from the elimination of competition from reinforcement-related behavior that accompanies the transition to extinction. This experiment examined the effects of reinforcement magnitude on the extinction burst with rats.
