The denatured bovine serum albumin (dBSA) is coupled with the CdTe/CdS quantum dot and the resulting CdTe/CdS@dBSA complex is assembled and retained in the poly(n-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel via regulating temperature and pH to form the CdTe/CdS@dBSA-PNIPAM fluorescence hydrogel substrate, which is able to adsorb and sense cadmium ions (Cd). Based on this fluorescence hydrogel, a fluorescence and colorimetric dual-mode detection system is established to quantitatively detect Cd with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.88 nM for fluorescence detection and 11.66 nM for colorimetric detection. Here, the fluorescence and colorimetric detection mode can obtain the dual test signal including the fluorescence signal and visual orange-red color signal. Therein, the utilization of smartphone can achieve the conversion of visual color signals into RGB digital signals, facilitating the interconnection of data among the communication devices. This research provides a novel and advanced strategy for the accurate and real-time detection of Cd.

A novel fluorescence sensing nanoplatform (CDs/AuNCs@ZIF-8) encapsulating carbon dots (CDs) and gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) within a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was developed for ratiometric detection of formaldehyde (FA) in the medium of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NHOH·HCl). The nanoplatform exhibited pink fluorescence due to the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of AuNCs and the internal filtration effect (IFE) between AuNCs and CDs. Upon reaction between NHOH·HCl and FA, a Schiff base formed via aldehyde-diamine condensation, releasing hydrochloric acid.

Massive blood loss is the main cause of prehospital trauma-related death, the development of rapid and effective hemostatic materials is imminent. Injectable hydrogels have the advantages of covering irregular bleeding sites and quickly closing the wound. However, its inherent viscosity can easily precipitate tissue adhesion and other complications.

Amyloid fibrils, historically stigmatized due to their association with diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, are now recognized as a distinct class of functional proteins with extraordinary potential. These highly ordered, cross-β-sheet protein aggregates are found across all domains of life, playing crucial physiological roles. In bacteria, functional amyloids like curli fibers are essential for surface adhesion, biofilm formation, and viral DNA packaging.

The use of fluorescent labels is the most common tool to visualize cells. However, the internalization of dye molecules often modifies the cell behavior. In this paper we demonstrate that it is possible to transiently label cells using a 3D scaffold, a hydrogel, covalently functionalized with luminescent cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) and its primary chemical components, including collagen, play a pivotal role in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. The ECM actively regulates cell proliferation, migration, and, importantly, resistance to various adverse factors. It is widely recognized as a key factor in modifying the resistance of tumor cells to various treatment modalities and cytotoxic compounds.
