Background: Maternal agonistic autoantibodies against the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1-AAs) have been implicated in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, but their presence in their offsprings and their possible neonatal effects have not been specifically explored. This prospective study aimed to evaluate the presence of AT1-AAs and their potential clinical effects in neonates of AT1-AAs positive mothers.
Methods: Women with preeclampsia and their neonates were included. Blood samples were collected in order to search for AT1-AAs.
Results: AT1-AA determination was positive in 35 out of 64 of the studied women (54.7%). Thirty one newborns from the group of AT1-AA positive women were included and 22 (71%) were AT1-AA positive. The mothers' and children's AT1-AAs titers were significantly correlated. The 33 newborns from the group of AT1-AA negative women were all negative for AT1-AAs. Regarding the clinical data of newborns (birth weight, percentile of weight, gestational age, Apgar score at five minutes, mechanical or noninvasive ventilation), no significant difference was observed between the children with or without detected AT1-AAs.
Conclusion: Even though AT1-AAs are detected in newborns of positive mothers during the first days of life, no specific clinical signs seem to be associated with the presence of these antibodies.

Objective: Post-cesarean delivery (CD) acute pain may progress to chronic pain, which may impair maternal bonding and child development. In 2013, we compared the efficacy of versus on-demand oral analgesia for post-caesarean pain in a randomized-controlled-trial. The fixed-time-interval group had received scheduled paracetamol, tramadol, and diclofenac regardless of pain level, and the on-demand group received medication as needed, with oxycodone reserved for unrelieved pain in both groups.

The presence of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment is increasing due to their growing use for human health. Although most studies are based on short exposures to these contaminants, the present study has emerged from the need to study pharmaceuticals in aquatic organisms over a long-term exposure to understand any multi-generational chronic effects and alterations regarding habitat selection. Therefore, this study shows: (1) the ability of Daphnia magna to colonize environments contaminated with caffeine, ibuprofen and fluoxetine, and (2) the effect of these pharmaceuticals on reproduction and habitat selection (under two scenarios: with and without food) after a long-term exposure period of three generations.

Despite numerous studies linking prenatal vaping to adverse perinatal outcomes, a systematic assessment for critical comparison remains absent. To investigate these associations, we conducted a systematic search of studies assessing perinatal outcomes in mothers and/or neonates exposed to vaping during pregnancy compared to those in women without prenatal vaping exposure through MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PROSPERO, and Google Scholar until July 5, 2024. We performed inverse-variance random-effects meta-analyses for maternal and neonatal outcomes of 23 studies with a total of 924,376 participants with 7552 reporting vaping-only use during pregnancy.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the correlation between prevalent risk factors for high-risk neonates in neonatal intensive care unit and their hearing loss, and to examine the audiological features and genetic profiles associated with different deafness mutations in our tertiary referral center. This research seeks to deepen our understanding of the etiology behind congenital hearing loss.
Methods: We conducted initial hearing screenings, including automated auditory brainstem response, distortion product otoacoustic emission, and acoustic immittance on 443 high-risk neonates within 7 days after birth and 42 days (if necessary) after birth.
