Carbyne-related materials permit exploring the potentially extraordinary properties of this long-sought but still elusive carbon allotrope. However, accurate understanding of these materials is challenging. Here we report the crystal structure of a Au-pseudocarbyne, a representative of a possible new family of materials consisting of sp-hybridized carbon chains and stabilizing metal atoms. Au-pseudocarbyne(C), the representative pseudocarbyne containing six-membered carbon chains, has space group P6/mmm and unit-cell parameters a = b = 0.60 nm, c = 0.896 nm, α = β = 90°, γ = 120°. Its long-range structure can be understood as intimately intergrown bundles, each consisting of six parallel, infinite carbon chains surrounding a column of gold atoms. This compound, together with its eight-membered counterpart Au-pseudocarbyne(C), shows that interesting new materials resembling the carbyne structure and sharing some of its properties can be designed and developed. The current work raises serious questions regarding recent reports of carbyne synthesis.

Investigation the CMP process of 6 H-SiC in HO solution with ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulation.

Sci Rep

January 2025

College of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University of Technology, No.18, Chaowang Road, Hangzhou, 310014, Zhejiang Province, China.

To observe the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process at the atomic scale, reactive force field molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) was employed to simulate the polishing of 6 H-SiC under three conditions: dry, pure water, and HO solution. This study examined the reactants on the surface of 6 H-SiC during the reaction in the HO solution, along with the dissociation and adsorption processes of HO and water molecules. The mechanisms for atom removal during the CMP process were elucidated.

Hydrolysis and transport characteristics of starch inclusion complexes with long-chain alkyl gallates: Controlled two-step release of gallic acid and retardation of starch digestion.

Electronic address:

Corn starch inclusion complexes of alkyl gallates (typical phenololipid representatives), including stearyl gallate, dodecyl gallate, octyl gallate, and hexadecyl gallate, were synthesized by using a heat treatment method. Such inclusion complexes exhibited significantly improved two-step release properties for gallic acid. In other words, gallic acid was generated via the breakdown of alkyl gallates that were released from inclusion complexes in an everted rat intestinal sac model, as determined by HPLC-UV analysis.

Plant cuticular waxes serve as highly responsive adaptations to variable environments. Aliphatic waxes consist of very-long-chain (VLC) compounds produced from 1-alcohol- or alkane-forming pathways. The existing variation in 1-alcohols and alkanes across Arabidopsis accessions revealed that 1-alcohol amounts are negatively correlated with aridity factors, whereas alkanes display the opposite behaviour.

High-Rate 4.2 V Solid-State Potassium Batteries by In Situ Polymerized Epoxide Ether Electrolyte.

Nano Lett

January 2025

College of Materials Science and Engineering, Hunan Joint International Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Technology of Clean Energy, Hunan Province Key Laboratory for Advanced Carbon Materials and Applied Technology, Hunan University, Changsha 410082, China.

Solid-state metallic potassium batteries (SSMPBs) afresh have attracted incremental attention because of their potential to supplement solid-state metallic lithium batteries. However, SSMPBs suffer poor electrochemical performances due to the low ionic conductivity of solid electrolytes and huge electrode/electrolyte interfacial resistance. Herein, high-rate SSMPBs are achieved by in situ ring-opening polymerization of 1,3-dioxolane with succinonitrile as a plasticizer and Al(OTf) as the catalyst, where the succinonitrile enables short-chain polyether electrolytes.

Trophic ecology in an anchialine cave: A stable isotope study.

PLoS One

January 2025

Colección Nacional de Crustáceos, Instituto de Biología, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Ciudad Universitaria, Mexico, Ciudad de México, Mexico.

The analysis of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) has been widely used in ecology since it allows to identify the circulation of energy in a trophic network. The anchialine ecosystem is one of the less explored aquatic ecosystems in the world and stable isotope analysis represents a useful tool to identify the routes through which energy flows and to define the trophic niches of species. Sampling and data recording was conducted in one anchialine cave, Cenote Vaca Ha, near the town of Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, where seven stygobitic species endemic to the anchialine caves of the Yucatan Peninsula, plus sediment, water and vegetation samples were analyzed to determine what the main nutrient sources are.
