Peri-implant diseases, such as peri-implantitis, affect up to 47% of dental implant recipients, primarily due to biofilm formation. Current decontamination methods vary in efficacy, prompting interest in polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) for their antimicrobial and protein-specific cleaning properties. This study evaluated the efficacy of polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) in decontaminating titanium dental implants by removing proteinaceous pellicle layers and resisting recontamination.

Background: Both oxidative stress and autoimmune responses play crucial roles in the development of vitiligo. Under oxidative stress, the apoptotic melanocytes expose self-antigens and release high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), triggering autoimmune activation and recruiting CD8 T cells. This process further leads to the destruction of melanocytes, resulting in the lack of melanin granules.

S. Typhimurium bacteria cause one of the most recurrent gastrointestinal diseases worldwide. This bacterium can settle in the gastrointestinal tract and internalize into different cellular strains, causing the formation of cellular reservoirs that subsequently lead to systemic dissemination.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the biological changes in rabbit corneas caused by two light-activated corneal stiffening methods: riboflavin with UVA and WST11 with NIR.
  • Differentially expressed proteins were identified following treatments, showing RF-D/UVA affected cell metabolism and keratocyte differentiation, while WST-D/NIR influenced extracellular matrix regulation.
  • The findings reveal a metabolic shift towards glycolysis in RF-D/UVA treated corneas compared to normal respiration in WST-D/NIR treated corneas, highlighting the distinct biological effects of each treatment.

Graphene, a two-dimensional material featuring densely packed sp-hybridized carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice, has revolutionized material science. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) represents a breakthrough method for producing graphene from both commercial and natural precursors via direct laser writing, offering advantages such as simplicity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This study demonstrates a novel approach to synthesize a composite material exclusively from a porous organic polymer (POP) by direct femtosecond laser writing on a compressed imide-linked porous organic polymer substrate.
