A Cost-Effective Two-Step Approach for Multi-Cancer Early Detection in High-Risk Populations.

Cancer Res Commun

Research & Development, SeekIn Inc, San Diego, California.

Published: January 2025

AI Article Synopsis

  • The two-step cancer screening method uses OncoSeek and SeekInCare to effectively reduce false positives while identifying cancer cases.
  • The first test, OncoSeek, leads to a significantly high number of false positives at 441,450, but when combined with SeekInCare, this drops to just 34,335.
  • Compared to other tests, the two-step approach is much more cost-effective, costing only $713.6 million versus $3,750 million for SeekInCare and $4,745 million for Galleri.

Article Abstract

Large-scale screening inevitably leads to significant financial burdens on the healthcare system, which is a key factor constraining nationwide screenings. The two-step MCED approach not only maintains comparable performance but also substantially alleviates financial strains compared with the direct use of next-generation sequencing-based MCED tests for massive screenings.

CO capture from the flue gas is a promising approach to mitigate global warming. However, regulating the carbon-based adsorbent in terms of textural and surface modification is still a challenge. To overcome this issue, the present study depicts the development of cost-effective and high-performance CO adsorbents derived from petroleum coke, an industrial by-product, using a two-step process involving thiourea modification and KOH activation.

Rapid, effective, and cost-effective methods for large-scale screening of pesticide residues in the environment and agricultural products are important for assessing potential environmental risks and safeguarding human health. Here, we constructed a novel aggregation-induced emission (AIE) electrochemical aptamer (Apt) sensor based on red-emissive sulfur quantum dots (SQDs), which aimed at the rapid screening and quantitative detection of malathion. SQDs were prepared using a two-step oxidation method with good electrochemiluminescence (ECL) optical properties.

Hydride (H) species on oxides have been extensively studied over the past few decades because of their critical role in various catalytic processes. Their syntheses require high temperatures and the presence of hydrogen, which involves complex equipment, high energy costs, and strict safety protocols. Hydride species tend to decompose in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and water, which reduces their catalytic activities.

Anticounterfeiting technologies have become increasingly crucial due to the growing issue of counterfeit goods, particularly in high-value industries. Traditional methods such as barcodes and holograms are prone to replication, prompting the need for advanced, cost-effective, and efficient solutions. In this work, a practical application of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes are presented for anticounterfeiting, which addresses the challenges of high production costs and complex fabrication processes.
