The wrapped Rama distribution.

Published: December 2024

A new one-parameter distribution is proposed for circular data based on wrapping. Most distributions constructed via wrapping do not yield elementary expressions for their mathematical properties. Yet the new distribution yields elementary expressions for all of its mathematical properties. Better fits of the new distribution over the three-parameter distribution due to Jones and Pewsey and six other wrapped distributions including four that have two parameters each are shown for at least two data sets. Better fits were assessed in terms of probability plots, density plots, values of Akaike information criterion and values of Bayesian information criterion.

The linear functional analysis, historically founded by Fourier and Legendre (Fourier's supervisor), has provided an original vision of the mathematical transformations between functional vector spaces. Fourier, and later Laplace and Wavelet transforms, respectively defined using the simple and damped pendulum, have been successfully applied in numerous applications in Physics and engineering problems. However the classical pendulum basis may not be the most appropriate in several problems, such as biological ones, where the modelling approach is not linked to the pendulum.

Introduction: Depression is the most common mental illness among older adults, with substantial and persistent mood depression as the main clinical feature, which is unfavorable for improvement. The clinical manifestations can range from melancholy to grief or even numbness. Approximately one-third of older adult patients exhibit physical discomfort as the first symptom; dysgeusia as the first symptom, is very rare in clinical practice.

Polygonal billiards exhibit a rich and complex dynamical behavior. In recent years, polygonal billiards have attracted much attention due to their application in the understanding of anomalous transport, but also at the fundamental level, due to their connections with diverse fields in mathematics. We explore this complexity and its consequences on the properties of particle transport in infinitely long channels made of the repetitions of an elementary open polygonal cell.

Background And Aims: Emotional and behavioural problems occur frequently in childhood and are usually associated with burdens on children, families, and society. Preventive interventions could reduce these burdens, but are rarely used despite their availability and effectiveness. The aim was to identify general, individual, structural, and family-related barriers/facilitators to potential and actual participation in prevention programs.
