Carbon nanomaterials show outstanding promise as electrocatalysts for hydrogen peroxide (HO) synthesis via the two-electron oxygen reduction reaction. However, carbon-based electrocatalysts that are capable of generating HO at industrial-level current densities (>300 mA cm) with high selectivity and long-term stability remain to be discovered. Herein, few-layer boron nanosheets are in-situ introduced into a porous carbon matrix, creating a metal-free electrocatalyst (B-C) with HO production rates of industrial relevance in neutral or alkaline media. B-C maintained > 95% Faradaic efficiency during a 140-hour test at 300 mA cm and 0.1 V vs. RHE, and delivered a mass activity of 25.1 mol g h in 1.0 M NaSO using a flow cell. Theoretical simulations and experimental studies demonstrate that the superior catalytic performance originates from B atoms with adsorbed O atoms in the boron nanosheets. B-C outperforms all metal-based and metal-free carbon catalysts reported to date for HO synthesis at industrial-level current densities.

The uncontrolled dendrite growth and detrimental parasitic reactions of Zn anodes currently impede the large-scale implementation of aqueous zinc ion batteries. Here, we design a versatile quasi-solid-state polymer electrolyte with highly selective ion transport channels via molecular crosslinking of sodium polyacrylate, lithium magnesium silicate and cellulose nanofiber. The abundant negatively charged ionic channels modulate Zn desolvation process and facilitate ion transport.

Developing highly efficient non-iridium-based active sites for acidic water splitting is still a huge challenge. Herein, unique Ru-B-Cr moieties have been constructed in RuO nanofibers (NFs) to activate Ru sites for water electrolysis, which overcomes the bottleneck of RuO-based catalysts usually possessing low activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and poor stability for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The fabricated Cr, B-doped RuO NFs exhibit low overpotentials of 205 and 379 mV for acidic HER and OER at 1 A cm with outstanding stability lasting 1000 and 188 h, respectively.

Carminic acid is a natural pigment typically found in several insect taxa, including specific insects such as "grana cochinilla fina" in Mexico ( Costa). Commercially, it is also referred to as carmine, which is a more concentrated solution presenting as at least 50% carminic acid. To date, this dye has been used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries.
