The most common type of liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), accounting for 75-85% of cases. Despite its associated side effects, sorafenib remains the standard treatment for HCC. Given the critical need to improve therapeutic efficacy while minimizing adverse effects, alternative drugs must be thoroughly investigated.

G protein-coupled purinergic P2Y receptors in infectious diseases.

Pharmacol Ther

January 2025

Laboratório de Neuroimunologia, Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Electronic address:

The purinergic P2Y receptors comprise eight G-coupled receptor (GPCR) subtypes already identified (P2Y, P2Y, P2Y, P2Y, P2Y, P2Y). P2Y receptor physiological agonists are extracellular purine and pyrimidine nucleotides such as ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), ADP (Adenosine diphosphate), UTP (Uridine triphosphate), UDP (Uridine diphosphate), and UDP-glucose. These receptors are expressed in almost all cells.

Background: Recent studies have highlighted the role of RNA modification, that is, the dysregulation of epitranscriptomics, in tumorigenesis and progression. The potential for undoing epigenetic changes may develop novel therapeutic and prognostic approaches. However, the roles of these RNA modifications in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are still unknown.

The A Adenosine Receptor (AAR) is an important therapeutic target due to its role in inflammation and immune response regulation. Herein, we synthesized and evaluated 5'-deoxy-adenosine derivatives with oxygen at the 4'-position, comparing them to previously studied 4'-thionucleosides. Compound exhibited the highest binding affinity ( = 5.

Previous studies showed no improvement in bacterial biomass for Puniceispirillum marinum IMCC1322 under light regimes. Nevertheless, in nutrient-replete cultures with higher inoculating cell densities, strain IMCC1322 exhibited proteorhodopsin photoheterotrophy. Increasing both inoculum size and the amino acid pool can eliminate quorum sensing and starvation responses in strain IMCC1322.
