Trifluoromethylcinnamanilides - Effective dual inhibitors of Mycobacterium smegmatis and Plasmodium falciparum.

Bioorg Chem

January 2025

Faculty of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmacy, National University of San Luis, IMIBIO-CONICET, Ejército de los Andes 950, 5700 San Luis, Argentina. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers synthesized eighteen new compounds called 2-trifluoromethylcinnamanilides and studied their effects against Mycobacterium smegmatis and Plasmodium falciparum, with promising results for certain substituted variants.
  • The most effective compounds against M. smegmatis were those with specific trifluoromethyl substitutions, while several anilides also showed strong activity against P. falciparum, with some comparable to chloroquine.
  • Initial cytotoxicity tests revealed that some compounds had toxic effects, but others did not, and further studies indicated that two compounds were stable and did not interfere with liver metabolism, enhancing their potential as dual-action antimicrobials.

The primary focus of this study is to analyze comparative heat transfer in a two-dimensional (2D) multilayered human skin using thermal waves and Pennes' bioheat transfer models. The model comprises the epidermis, dermis, hypodermis tissue, and inner cells, and aims to understand their response to microwave (MW) power and electromagnetic (EM) frequency. The system of equations involves EM wave frequency and bioheat equations and uses the finite element method (FEM) for solving.

Sesamol Loaded Silver Nanoparticles Gel Engineered for Wound Healing Topical Delivery: Optimization and Evaluation.

Curr Pharm Des

October 2024

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, Jazan University, Jazan 45142, Saudi Arabia.

Purpose: The current investigation involved the development and application of a topical treatment for wound healing for sesamol loaded into the silver nanoparticles (SML-AgNPs).

Methods: SML-AgNPs were produced through the application of microwave technique. The SML-AgNPs were further optimized utilizing a Box-Behnken design (BBD).

The management of digested sludge derived from treatment water plants is a problem worldwide due to the possible transfer of contamination from sludge to amended soil and, in turn, to humans. Within this work, through a chemometric experimental design, a robust GC-MS method for the simultaneous determination of two classes of micropollutants of concern (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons-PAHs-and polychlorinated biphenyls-PCBs-including dioxin-like compounds) was developed using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). The method, which showed interesting greenness features in compliance with the 12 principles of Green Chemistry, allowed PCB and PAH extraction with recoveries higher than 75% (RSD < 14%) with method detection limits between 4.
