Aim: In this study, we examined gender differences in fraction learning and explored potential underlying mechanisms.

Methods: The mediating effects of spatial ability and mathematical anxiety on gender differences in fraction learning were tested in elementary school students. A total of 165 sixth-grade students (83 girls) from public elementary schools participated in the study. All participants completed a series of tasks, including a mathematical anxiety test, two spatial ability tasks (spatial working memory and mental rotation tests), and a fraction knowledge test (incorporating fraction arithmetic, fraction number line, and fraction concept knowledge).

Results: Significant gender differences exist in student performance in terms of fractional arithmetic, fractional number line estimation, mathematical anxiety, and spatial working memory. We also identified a chain-mediating effect of spatial working memory and mathematical anxiety on the relationship between gender and fractional arithmetic.

Conclusion: The findings suggest a developmental pathway linking gender differences in spatial cognition to fraction learning, contributing to a better understanding of the cognitive and affective factors underlying gender differences in fraction learning during early adolescence. Furthermore, there are several practical implications for reducing gender differences in mathematics education during school years.

The study examines the morphometric development of the anterior cranial fossa in human fetuses and its clinical implications. The anterior cranial fossa, crucial for protecting the frontal lobes, was analyzed during prenatal development using innovative computer image processing techniques. We hypothesized that the growth of the anterior cranial fossa is not uniform throughout fetal development and that changing geometric relationships are important for possible therapeutic interventions in cases of congenital defects.

Relationship between fiber quality and follicle density in Ch'aku llamas (Lama glama).

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Universidad Nacional Micaela Bastidas de Apurímac, Abancay, Perú.

In the high altitudes of the Andes, llama breeders shear the fiber from their animals, obtaining fleeces for many purposes. Dehairing the fleece of these animals is a viable alternative to improving the quality and value of the fleece. The study examined the attributes of fiber quality and pilose follicle of dehaired and non-dehaired fleece from Ch'aku llamas and the relationship among these characteristics.

Distinctive molecular approaches and tools, particularly high-throughput SNP genotyping, have been applied to determine and discover SNPs, potential genes of interest, indicators of evolutionary selection, genetic abnormalities, molecular indicators, and loci associated with quantitative traits (QTLs) in various livestock species. These methods have also been used to obtain whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data, enabling the implementation of genomic selection. Genomic selection allows for selection decisions based on genomic-estimated breeding values (GEBV).
