Heart valve replacement in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery poses problems because conventional heart valve implants do not have the ability to grow. This mandates serial reoperations for implant exchanges until an adult size implant can fit. Partial heart transplantation eliminates these reoperations because the transplanted valves grow. However, partial heart transplantation competes with heart transplantation for a limited supply of donor hearts. This is a critical barrier to progress of the field. Domino partial heart transplantation is a new surgical technique that overcomes this barrier by capitalizing cardiectomy hearts from heart transplant recipients for partial heart transplantation. This surgical technique has the potential to transform pediatric heart valve replacement by greatly expanding the cardiac donor pool, increasing the time available for matching donors with recipients and simplifying the logistics of donation. As a result, the number of domino partial heart transplants is expected to exceed the number of partial heart transplants from deceased donors.

This post-marketing surveillance (PMS) assessed the safety and effectiveness of isatuximab plus pomalidomide and dexamethasone (Isa-Pd) for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) in frail individuals during real-world use in Japan. Data from all individuals with RRMM treated with Isa-Pd in Japan between October 2020 and October 2021 were collected, with follow-up continued up to 12 months after starting Isa-Pd or until discontinuation. In the overall PMS population, 40 participants were classified as frail (33.

The aim of this retrospective clinical study was to compare the combinations of ketamine/diazepam (KD group) and tiletamine/zolazepam (TZ group) for the induction of general anaesthesia in horses undergoing elective surgery. The data from the clinical and the anaesthetic records of 138 horses from 2021 to 2023 were evaluated, and the horses were divided in two groups: KD ( = 60) and TZ ( = 72). The horses were premedicated with romifidine and methadone IV; anaesthesia was induced with ketamine/diazepam for the KD group and tiletamine/zolazepam for the TZ group and was maintained with isoflurane and a constant rate infusion of romifidine.

Thalassemia is an autosomal recessive hereditary chronic hemolytic anemia characterized by a partial or complete deficiency in the synthesis of alpha- or beta-globin chains, which are essential components of adult hemoglobin. Mutations in the globin genes lead to the production of unstable globin chains that precipitate within cells, causing hemolysis. This shortens the lifespan of mature red blood cells (RBCs) and results in the premature destruction of RBC precursors in the bone marrow.
