Rare bilateral vascular variations of the upper limb: a cadaveric case study.

J Cardiothorac Surg

December 2024

Centre for Human Anatomy Education, Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Biomedical Discovery Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, Clayton, Australia.

Arterial variations in the upper limb are of significant clinical importance, especially in procedures such as venepunctures, coronary artery bypass grafts, trauma reconstructive surgeries, brachial plexus nerve blocks, and breast reconstructions. This report presents previously undocumented arterial variations in the upper limbs in a 95-year-old female cadaveric donor. We observed bilateral superficial ulnar arteries originating at the cubital fossa, deviating from the previously reported origin at the proximal brachial artery.

Background: The clinical characteristics of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adolescents show notable gender-related differences, but the cause of these differences is still not understood. The current research concentrates on the changes in neurometabolism and neuroendocrine function, aiming to identify differences in endocrine function and brain metabolism between male and female adolescents with MDD.

Methods: A total of 121 teenagers diagnosed with MDD (43 males and 78 females) were enlisted as participants.

The study of the cortical basis of reading has greatly benefited from the use of naturalistic paradigms that permit eye movements. However, due to the short stimulus lengths used in most naturalistic reading studies, it remains unclear how reading of texts comprising more than isolated sentences modulates cortical processing. To address this question, we used magnetoencephalography to study the spatiospectral distribution of oscillatory activity during naturalistic reading of multi-page texts.

Background And Purpose: The interaction between language and other cognitive networks in patients harboring brain tumors is poorly understood. We studied the modification of the cognitive control network (CCN) induced by brain tumors and its participation in language reorganization. We hypothesized that patients with brain tumors and reorganized language would show modification of the CCN compared to patients who remain left dominant.

The Multi-Component Structure of Core Strength.

J Funct Morphol Kinesiol

November 2024

Institute of Sport Science, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, 26129 Oldenburg, Germany.

Background/objectives: Core strength diagnostics often focus on measuring core endurance rather than maximal core strength or core power. This study investigates whether core strength can be considered as a general ability that can be measured by a single core strength test or whether it needs to be differentiated into several components.

Methods: Forty-two adult sports students ( = 20; = 22; age: 24.
