As modern communication and detection technologies advance at a swift pace, multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with active/positive infrared stealth, hydrophobicity, and electric-thermal conversion ability have received extensive attention. Meeting the aforesaid requirements simultaneously remains a huge challenge. In this research, the melamine foam (MF)/polypyrrole (PPy) nanowire arrays (MF@PPy) were fabricated via one-step electrochemical polymerization. The hierarchical MF@PPy foam was composed of three-dimensional PPy micro-skeleton and ordered PPy nanowire arrays. Due to the upwardly grown PPy nanowire arrays, the MF@PPy foam possessed good hydrophobicity ability with a water contact angle of 142.00° and outstanding stability under various harsh environments. Meanwhile, the MF@PPy foam showed excellent thermal insulation property on account of the low thermal conductivity and elongated ligament characteristic of PPy nanowire arrays. Furthermore, taking advantage of the high conductivity (128.2 S m), the MF@PPy foam exhibited rapid Joule heating under 3 V, resulting in dynamic infrared stealth and thermal camouflage effects. More importantly, the MF@PPy foam exhibited remarkable EMI shielding effectiveness values of 55.77 dB and 19,928.57 dB cm g. Strong EMI shielding was put down to the hierarchically porous PPy structure, which offered outstanding impedance matching, conduction loss, and multiple attenuations. This innovative approach provides significant insights to the development of advanced multifunctional EMI shielding foams by constructing PPy nanowire arrays, showing great applications in both military and civilian fields.

Silver, as the oldest antibacterial material, has been almost replaced by other alternatives for its insufficient activity or potential side-effects on the ecosystem due to the over-release of Ag ions (Ag). Herein, a facile and general strategy is developed to on-substrate fabricate silver coordination polymer nanowire arrays (Ag CPN) by simply immersing Ag-containing substrates into cationic surfactant solution at room temperature. Such a Ag CPN not only provides high-surface-area nano-biointerfaces for destroying microorganisms via physicomechanical interactions but also acts as a safe Ag reservoir, steadily releasing Ag at a relatively high but safe level (∼40 ppb, but lower than the safe level of 100 ppb).

The processes of electrochemical deposition of Ni on vertically aligned GaAs nanowires (NWs) grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) using Au as a growth catalyst on Si(111) substrates were studied. Based on the results of electrochemical deposition, it was concluded that during the MBE synthesis of NWs the self-induced formation of conductive channels can occur inside NWs, thereby forming quasi core-shell nanowires. Depending on the length of the channel compare to the NW heights and the parameters of electrochemical deposition, the different hybrid metal-semiconductor nanostructures, such as Ni nanoparticles on GaAs NW side walls, Ni clusters on top ends of GaAs NWs, core-shell Ni/GaAs NWs, were obtained.

Developing efficient non-noble metal dual-functional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting is essential for the production of green hydrogen. Given the significant advantages of self-supporting electrodes, regulating the growth of self-supporting nanoarrays on a conductive substrate is conducive to improving the electrocatalytic activity. In this work, aligned cobalt phosphide (CoP) nanowire arrays grown on borate-modified Ni foam substrate (CoP/R-NF) were utilized as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for both hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER) in alkaline solution.

Among the transition metal oxides, hematite (α-FeO) has been widely used in the preparation of memristors because of its excellent physical and chemical properties. In this paper, α-FeO nanowire arrays with a preferred orientation along the [110] direction were prepared by a facile hydrothermal method and annealing treatment on the FTO substrate, and then α-FeO nanowire array-based Au/α-FeO/FTO memristors were obtained by plating the Au electrodes on the as-prepared α-FeO nanowire arrays. The as-prepared α-FeO nanowire array-based Au/α-FeO/FTO memristors have demonstrated stable nonvolatile bipolar resistive switching behaviors with a high resistive switching ratio of about two orders of magnitude, good resistance retention (up to 10 s), and ultralow set voltage (V = +2.
