To reach a destination within the community, it is crucial that wheelchair users possess the ability to plan, execute, and acquire knowledge of routes in a safe and efficient manner. While numerous methods have been introduced for assessing the accessibility of sidewalks, existing studies often overlook the variations in the perception of the accessibility of long segments based on each wheelchair user's capabilities. Extended distances may lead to increased fatigue, impacting the ability of individuals with mobility disabilities to navigate sidewalks comfortably and independently.

Wild-caught fish are an important subsistence food source in remote northern regions, but they can also be a source of exposure to mercury (Hg), which has known health hazards. We investigated factors and mechanisms that control variability of Hg concentrations in Lake Whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) among remote subarctic lakes in Northwest Territories, Canada. Integrating variables that reflect fish ecology, in-lake conditions, and catchment attributes, we aimed to not only determine factors that best explain among-lake variability of fish Hg, but also to provide a whole-ecosystem understanding of interactions that drive among-lake variability of fish Hg.

Repeated closed-head injuries (rCHI) from activities like contact sports, falls, military combat, and traffic accidents pose a serious risk due to their cumulative impact on the brain. Often, rCHI is not diagnosed until symptoms of irreversible brain damage appear, highlighting the need for preventive measures. This study assessed the prophylactic efficacy of remote photobiomodulation (PBM) targeted at the lungs against rCHI-induced brain injury and associated behavioral deficits.

The primary purpose of this study was to improve our understanding of remote sensing technologies and their potential application in vineyards to monitor yields and fruit composition, which could then be used for selective harvesting and winemaking. For yield and berry composition data collection, representative vines from the vineyard block were selected and geolocated, and the same vines were surveyed for remote sensing data collection by the multispectral and thermal sensors in the RPAS in 2015 and 2016. The spectral reflectance data were further analyzed for vegetation indices to evaluate the correlation between the variables.

The region of Arica and Parinacota hosts unexplored remote sites with unique characteristics suitable for developing novel agricultural bioproducts. Notable locations include Jurasi Hot Springs, Polloquere Hot Springs, and Amuyo Lagoons, featuring open pools fed by thermal mountain springs. These geothermal sites harbor bacteria with plant growth-promoting activities, particularly interesting to the strains J19, TP22, A20, and A3.
