Background: Cellular histones are DNA-binding nuclear proteins involved in chromatin remodelling and regulation of gene expression. However, extracellular histones act as damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and contribute to multiorgan damage in conditions with sepsis and diseases with acute critical illnesses. Alongside, histones are associated with thrombocytopenia due to dysfunctional platelets that regulate hemostasis and thrombosis.

Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is characterized by dynamic changes in fibrinolysis, which can significantly impact patient outcomes. These changes typically manifest in two phases: hyperfibrinolysis followed by fibrinolysis suppression. In the early stages of TIC, there is often an overwhelming release of tissue plasminogen activator, which leads to excessive fibrinolysis.

Acute kidney injury induced by stings from multiple wasps is a medical emergency and is a driving factor of acute renal dysfunction. Numerous studies have shown that mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) play a key role in ischemia-reperfusion injury-, cisplatin-, and sepsis-induced acute kidney injury. However, the role of mtROS and its underlying mechanisms in wasp-venom-induced acute kidney injury remain inconclusive.

Objective: Multi-organ failure frequently complicates sepsis, with lungs being the primary target. T helper (Th) cell activation and phenotypic imbalance among them contribute significantly to sepsis-associated lung injury. Additionally, the complement system could regulate the polarized phenotype of T lymphocytes.

Background: Various blood glucose (BG) variability-related indexes have been widely used to assess glycemic control and predict glycemic risks, but the association between BG variations and prognosis in non-diabetic patients with sepsis remains unclear.
Methods: The single-center retrospective cohort study included 7,049 non-diabetic adults with sepsis who had at least 3 records of bedside capillary point of care BG testing during the first day after ICU admission from MIMIC-IV database (2008 to 2019). Coefficient of variation and standard deviation of glucose (i.
