In this chapter, we first survey strategies for the mathematical modeling of gene regulatory networks for capturing physiologically important dynamics in cells such as oscillations. We focus on models based on ordinary differential equations with various forms of nonlinear functions that describe gene regulations. We next use a small system of a microRNA and its mRNA target to illustrate a recently discovered oscillator driven by noncoding RNAs. This oscillator has unique features that distinguish it from conventional biological oscillators, including the absence of an imposed negative feedback loop and the divergence of the periods. The latter property may serve crucial biological functions for restoring heterogeneity of cell populations on the timescale of days. We describe general requirements for obtaining the limit cycle oscillations in terms of underlying biochemical reactions and kinetic rate constants. We discuss future directions stemming from this minimal, noncoding RNA-based model for gene expression oscillation.

This study systematically explores the oncogenic role of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LINC00115 in endometrial cancer (EC) and reveals its unique mechanism in promoting proliferation, invasion, and metastasis via the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. LINC00115 is significantly upregulated in EC tissues and closely associated with advanced TNM staging and lymph node metastasis. Functional assays showed that knockdown of LINC00115 suppressed EC cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis, while overexpression enhanced these malignant behaviors.

This study aims to explore various key factors influencing the academic performance of college students, including metacognitive awareness, learning motivation, participation in learning, environmental factors, time management, and mental health. By employing the chi-square test to identify features closely related to academic performance, this paper discussed the main influencing factors and utilized machine learning models (such as LOG, SVC, RFC, XGBoost) for prediction. Experimental results indicate that the XGBoost model performs the best in terms of recall and accuracy, providing a robust prediction for academic performance.

Short linear peptide motifs play important roles in cell signaling. They can act as modification sites for enzymes and as recognition sites for peptide binding domains. SH2 domains bind specifically to tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins, with the affinity of the interaction depending strongly on the flanking sequence.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by decreased bone mass and increased bone fracture risk. Estrogen deficiency during menopause plays a major role in post-menopausal osteoporosis by influencing bone, immune, and gut cell activity. In the gut, estrogen loss decreases tight junction proteins that bind epithelial cells of the intestinal barrier together.
