Objectives: to analyze the rate of antimicrobial dose omission in intensive care units.

Methods: cross-sectional study carried out between March 1 and September 30, 2023, in intensive care units of a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

Results: the sample consisted of 452 prescriptions and 1467 antimicrobial doses. The dose omission rate was 4.29%. Each antimicrobial prescribed increased the chance of omission by 51%. The strategy of double-checking prescriptions helped prevent 30% of antimicrobial dose omissions (p=0.0001).

Conclusions: monitoring the omission of antimicrobial doses can guide nursing actions to improve quality and patient safety, contributing to the prevention of medication errors, antimicrobial stewardship and the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Background: On demand, topical PrEP is desired by those preferring episodic, nonsystemic PrEP. PC-1005 gel (MIV-150, zinc, and carrageenan) exhibits in vitro antiviral HIV-1, human papillomavirus (HPV), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) activity, attractive for a multipurpose prevention technology candidate. We evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics, and antiviral effect of rectally applied PC-1005.

A better understanding of knowledge, attitude and practices of undergraduate medical students towards antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is necessary to identify gaps in the current training curriculum. A 20-point Likert scale-based questionnaire divided into three parts, knowledge, attitude and practices, relating to antibiotic use and resistance was devised. Students attending each year of the undergraduate medical programme were approached to participate in the study over a 1-week period.

This study aims to investigate the mechanism of tanshinone Ⅱ_A(Tan Ⅱ_A) in protecting mice from diethylinitrosamine(DEN)/carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4)/ethanol(C_2H_5OH)-induced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and HepG2 cells from hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2)-induced oxidative damage via the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt) and nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2)/heme oxygenase 1(HO-1) signaling pathways. Sixty male C57BL/6J mice were grouped as follows: control, model, low, medium, and high-dose(10, 20, 40 mg·kg~(-1), respectively) Tan Ⅱ_A, and colchicine(0.2 mg·kg~(-1)), with 10 mice in each group.
