What Is Already Known About This Topic?: China is rapidly encountering population aging, yet studies on aging are limited by the traditional aging measure: chronological age, particularly in the field of genomics. Several promising aging measures have been proposed, but they lack comparative evaluation.

What Is Added By This Report?: PhenoAge was identified as a measure of aging that demonstrated greater applicability in contemporary populations. Based on this, several novel genetic variants were found to enhance the predictive accuracy of aging.

What Are The Implications For Public Health Practice?: These findings might provide new insights into aging and facilitate the development of a practical screening program based on PhenoAge, which aims to promote healthy aging in China.

We sought to characterize cellular composition across the cardiovascular system of the healthy Wistar rat, an important model in preclinical cardiovascular research. We performed single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) in 78 samples in 10 distinct regions, including the four chambers of the heart, ventricular septum, sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, aorta, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary veins, which produced 505,835 nuclei. We identified 26 distinct cell types and additional subtypes, with different cellular composition across cardiac regions and tissue-specific transcription for each cell type.

RNA modifications in plant adaptation to abiotic stresses.

December 2024

Jiangsu International Joint Center of Genomics, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Comparative Genomics, School of Life Sciences, Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province 221116, China,. Electronic address:

Epitranscriptomic chemical modifications of RNAs have emerged as potent regulatory mechanisms in the plant stress adaptation process. Currently, over 170 distinct chemical modifications have been identified in mRNAs, tRNAs, rRNAs, microRNAs (miRNAs), and long-noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). The genetic and molecular studies have identified the genes responsible for adding and removing chemical modifications on RNA molecules, known as "writers" and "erasers," respectively.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with several mild metabolic disorders, including insulin resistance (IR), obesity, and dyslipidemia, as well as with some more severe ones, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cardiovascular disease. Clinically, mild metabolic complications of PCOS such as IR or lipid metabolism disorders are the predictors of these more severe ones. So far, there is no reliable single marker that enables defining metabolic risk in patients with PCOS.

Sickle cell disease is one of the most common autosomal recessive genetic disorders with 23% and over 70% of men with this condition, experiencing episodes of ischaemic priapism and stuttering priapism, respectively, with potentially severe consequences. The effective prevention of sickle cell disease induced ischaemic priapism and stuttering priapism requires a multidisciplinary and multimodal approach. A search of the English literature was performed utilising Pubmed® and Google Scholar to identify publications on contemporary and novel treatment options, with their associated treatment outcomes if available, that are utilised to prevent stuttering priapism episodes and hence a fulminant ischaemic priapism.
