The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAGs) provide website development requirements with users' cognitive/sensory limitations in mind. The purpose of this study was to assess the accessibility and usability of shoulder instability surgery and open Latarjet surgery online patient education materials (OPEMs) for persons with disabilities based on WCAG compliance. OPEMs were evaluated for search engine optimization, content, design, performance, accessibility, overall scores, body text contrast ratios, and compliance error count at increasing WCAG standard levels. Analysis suggested that OPEMs across both search terms scored poorly in WCAG compliance scores and had significant increases in the number of compliance errors as standards became more stringent. These results suggest that orthopedic OPEMs place unnecessary cognitive and physical loads on users with disabilities, warranting greater scrutiny of the availability and accessibility of orthopedic OPEMs.

Background: Among rugby players, anterior shoulder dislocation is challenging to treat during the in-season period. It often leads to recurrent shoulder instability and requires prolonged rest post-surgery. No studies have determined the effectiveness of immobilization, early muscle strength training, or both in preventing reinjury in this population.

Background: Despite the effectiveness of remplissage in reducing instability recurrence, debate remains about the loss of external rotation (ER) after this procedure.

Purpose: To compare the loss of ER after primary isolated arthroscopic Bankart repair alone (BR), Bankart with remplissage (REMP), and Latarjet (LAT) procedures.

Study Design: Meta-analysis; Level of evidence, 3.

Does Scapular and Thoracic Morphology Affect Latarjet Alpha Angle?

J Clin Med

January 2025

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, Istanbul 34093, Turkey.

This study aimed to determine the relationship between alpha angle (the angle between the screws and the glenoid) and thoracic diameters in patients undergoing the Latarjet procedure. Defining the relationship between thoracic morphology and alpha angle is aimed at filling the gap in the literature and improving surgical outcomes. This retrospective study analyzed 74 patients who underwent the Latarjet procedure for recurrent anterior shoulder instability between 2022 and 2024.

Purpose: To compare arthroscopic Bankart repair versus the open Latarjet procedure at a minimum of 10-year follow-up evaluating recurrence and arthropathy development rates.

Methods: A systematic review was performed in concordance with PRISMA guidelines. Studies were included if they reported on the arthroscopic Bankart repair or open Latarjet procedure with a minimum of 10-year follow-up.
