Galeazzi-equivalent fracture is a very rare type of fracture. Unlike the "classic" adult form of Galeazzi fracture, where the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) is dislocated and the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is often damaged, the DRUJ and TFCC may remain intact in children. In this article, we report the case of an 11-year-old boy with a Galeazzi-equivalent fracture. Awareness of this kind of injury is important to prevent malreduction of the ulna.

Pronation-Type Galeazzi-Equivalent Fracture: A Case Report.

Orthopedic Surgery, King Abdullah Medical Complex, Jeddah, SAU.

Fractures of the forearm are common among children and adolescents. Radial shaft fracture with dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), called Galeazzi fracture, is unusual in pediatrics. The Galeazzi-equivalent fracture is a variant of the classic Galeazzi fracture that occurs in children and adolescents.

Case: An 11-year-old Caucasian boy presented to the emergency department with a displaced, closed, Galeazzi equivalent (GE) left wrist fracture sustained after a fall. Closed reduction was deemed unsatisfactory because of persistent displacement of the distal ulna epiphysis. An open reduction of the distal ulna and percutaneous fracture pinning was performed.

When to Suspect DRUJ's Instability in Children? Case Report of a Rare Presentation of Distal Forearm Fractures.

Pediatric displaced distal metaphyseal ulnar fractures and distal radial buckle fractures are common. However, to the best of our knowledge, their association has never been specifically reported. Thus, classification and management of this pattern remain challenging especially in young children.

A Galeazzi-equivalent lesion occurs in children and adolescents following a traumatic distal radius fracture when the strong radioulnar ligaments and relative weakness of the ulnar physis result in an avulsion-type Salter-Harris III fracture of the distal ulna. In unreduced fractures, the osteogenic nature of the torn periosteal sleeve may result in the formation of a bifid distal ulna. We describe two cases of bifid distal ulna that developed after missed Galeazzi-equivalent lesions.
