Two mycelium-forming actinobacterial strains, designated as DLS-47 and DLS-62, were isolated from volcanic ash collected from the surface of a rock on the peak of Darangshi Oreum (a volcanic cone) in Jeju, Republic of Korea, and their taxonomic positions were investigated by a polyphasic approach. Both of the isolates showed growth at 20-42 °C, pH 6.0-9.0 and 0-1% (w/v) NaCl. Furthermore, DLS-47 was found to grow at 45 °C, while strain DLS-62 grew at pH 10.0 and 3% (w/v) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene-based phylogeny showed that both of the isolates belonged to the genus ; strain DLS-47 was most closely related to DSM 45346 (100% sequence identity), while strain DLS-62 formed a tight cluster with DSM 45347 (99.5% sequence similarity). Morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics supported the affiliation of the two isolates to the genus . Phylogenomic analysis based on 92 core gene sequences showed that both of the isolates were most closely related to DSM 45346. Strain DLS-47 shared 100% of orthologous average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values with DSM 45346, while strain DLS-62 showed orthologous average nucleotide identity ≤89.8% and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values ≤39.4% with strain DLS-47 and members of the genus . The results of phenotypic assays and comparison of overall genomic relatedness indices support the conclusion that strain DLS-47 (= KACC 23347=DSM 116423) is a strain of , while strain DLS-62 (= KACC 23345 = DSM 116424) represents a new species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. Also, Lu 2003 is reclassified as a later heterotypic synonym of (Shinobu 1962) Preobrazhenskaya . 1975 (Approved Lists 1980) based on analysis of overall genomic relatedness indices and phenotypic similarity.

A practical and efficient reaction for C2-selenylation of 1,4-naphthoquinones has been explored. This coupling reaction of two redox structural motifs, such as 2-bromo-1,4-naphthoquinone with diaryldiselenide / ebselen has been achieved by using sodium borohydride reducing agent at room temperature. Using this approach, several 2-selenylated-1,4-naphthoquinones were obtained in moderate to good yields and thoroughly characterized by multinuclear (1H, 13C, and 77Se) NMR, cyclic voltammetry, and mass spectrometry.

Species of the genus Ganoderma are important medicinal and edible mushrooms, with polysaccharides being its main active ingredient. The submerged fermentation of Ganoderma is an important source of polysaccharides in the mycelia. In this study, a single factor test and an orthogonal test were employed to optimize the medium and fermentation conditions with the objective of obtaining a high content of polysaccharide in the liquid submerged fermentation culture mycelia of Ganoderma species.

Objective: To assess the burden of ergonomic strain and to examine factors influencing intention to use wearable technology that may improve ergonomics during surgery.
Background: Surgical ergonomic strain leads to high rates of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and pain, contributing to early surgeon retirement and an epidemic of burnout.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey of surgeons at a single institution was conducted using two validated instruments, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), assessing musculoskeletal strain and facilitators of wearable sensor use, respectively.

Recent studies have reported that the overexpression of MUC1 glycoproteins on cell surfaces changes the morphology of cell plasma membranes and increases the blebbing of vesicles from them, supporting the hypothesis that entropic forces exerted by MUC1 change the spontaneous curvature of cell membranes. However, how MUC1 is incorporated into and influences the size and biophysical properties of plasma-membrane-blebbed vesicles is not understood. Here we report single-vesicle-level characterization of giant plasma membrane vesicles (GPMVs) derived from cells overexpressing MUC1, revealing a 40× variation in MUC1 density between GPMVs from a single preparation and a strong correlation between GPMV size and MUC1 density.

We investigated the effect of uniaxial strain on the electrical properties of few-layer ZrSe devices under compressive and tensile strains applied up to ±0.62% along different crystal directions. We observed that the piezoresponse, the change in resistance upon application of strain, of ZrSe strongly depends on both the direction in which electrical transport occurs and the direction in which uniaxial strain is applied.
