The rising industrial demand for ultra-lightweight materials with exceptional strength and toughness has intensified interest in dual-phase Mg-Li alloys due to their low density and high specific strength. While much of the research on Mg-Li alloys has concentrated on conventional strengthening methods, such as grain refinement and solid-solution strengthening, overcoming the challenge of plastic deformation compatibility between the α- and β-phases remains unresolved. This study focuses on Mg-8Li binary alloy, systematically investigating the impact of rolling deformation temperature and strain on the phase structures. A detailed analysis of fracture behavior reveals a novel brittle-tough composite fracture control strategy that enhances both strength and toughness simultaneously. This work advances the understanding of phase structure control and its role in strengthening and toughening mechanisms, offering critical insights for the development of next-generation dual-phase magnesium alloys.

The dolomite dust-emulsified asphalt composite (DAC) with excellent mechanical properties was successfully prepared using alkali activation. The effects of different alkali concentrations and emulsified asphalt contents on the mechanical properties of the materials were studied. And the micro-mechanisms of its mechanical performance changes were analyzed through SEM and XRD characterization.

Penetrating orocutaneous or oropharyngeal fistulas (POFs), severe complications following unsuccessful oral or oropharyngeal reconstruction, remain complex clinical challenges due to lack of supportive tissue, contamination with saliva and chewed food, and dynamic oral environment. Here, we present a Janus hydrogel adhesive (JHA) with asymmetric functions on opposite sides fabricated via a facile surface enzyme-initiated polymerization (SEIP) approach, which self-entraps surface water and blood within an in-situ formed hydrogel layer (RL) to effectively bridge biological tissues with a supporting hydrogel (SL), achieving superior wet-adhesion and seamless wound plugging. The tough SL hydrogel interlocked with RL dissipates energy to withstand external mechanical stimuli from continuous oral motions like chewing and swallowing, thus reducing stress-induced damage.

Background: Short fiber-reinforced composites (SFRCs) are restorative materials for large cavities claimed to effectively resist crack propagation. This study aimed to compare the mechanical properties and physical characteristics of five commercially available SFRCS (Alert, Fibrafill Flow, Fibrafill Dentin, everX Flow, and everX Posterior) against a conventional particulate-filled composite (PFC, Essentia Universal).
Methods: The following characteristics were evaluated in accordance with ISO standards: flexural strength and modulus and fracture toughness.

Improving flame retardancy and mechanical strength of lignin-containing polyurethane is a great challenge. In this study, lignin with favorable reactivity and dispersity was extracted from poplar using acid hydrotrope p-TsOH in EtOH. The extracted acid hydrotrope lignin (AHL) was subsequently functionalized with nitrogen and phosphorus (FHL) and reacted with isocyanate to fabricate a fire-retardant polyurethane (FHL-PU).
