Terahertz waves are nondestructive and non-ionizing to synthetic and natural materials, including polymeric and biological materials. As a result, terahertz-based spectroscopy has emerged as a suitable technique to uncover fundamental molecular mechanisms and material properties in this electromagnetic spectrum regime. In terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), the material's optical properties are resolved using the raw time-domain signals collected from the sample and air reference data depending on accurate prior knowledge of the sample geometry. Alternatively, different spectral analysis algorithms can extract the complex index of refraction of optically thick or optically thin samples without specific thickness knowledge. A THz-TDS signal without apparent Fabry-Pérot oscillations is commonly associated with optically thin samples, whereas the terahertz signal of optically thick samples exhibits distinct Fabry-Pérot oscillations. While several extraction algorithms have been reported , the steps from reducing the time-domain signal to calculating the complex index of refraction and resolving the correct thickness can be daunting and intimidating while obscuring important steps. Therefore, the objective is to decipher, demystify, and demonstrate the extraction algorithms for Fabry-Pérot-absent and -present terahertz signals for various polymers with different molecular structure classifications and nonlinear optical crystal zinc telluride. The experimental results were in good agreement with previously published values while elucidating the contributions of the molecular structure to the stability of the algorithms. Finally, the necessary condition for manifesting Fabry-Pérot oscillations was delineated.

We introduce two strategies to enhance quantum synchronization within a triple-cavity optomechanical system, where each cavity contains an oscillator and is interconnected via optical fibers. Our results demonstrate that applying appropriate periodic modulation to the driving fields or the cavity modes can ensure robust quantum synchronization across both open and closed configurations. This approach offers promising avenues for expanding quantum synchronization capabilities in multi-cavity systems and has significant implications for advancing quantum synchronization generation and application in complex networks.

Expression of prokineticin 2 (PK2) mRNA in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), also knowns as the brain's clock, exhibits circadian oscillations with peak levels midday, zeitgeber time (ZT) 4, and almost undetectable levels during night. This circadian expression profile has substantially contributed to the suggested role of PK2 as an SCN output molecule involved in transmitting circadian rhythm of behavior and physiology. Due to unreliable specificity of PK2 antibodies, the 81 amino acid protein has primarily been studied at the mRNA level and correlation between circadian oscillating mRNAs and protein products are infrequent.

Objectives: In the present study with a large cohort, we aimed to characterize intracerebral seizure onset patterns (SOP) of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE), with or without hippocampal sclerosis (HS) as identified via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 255 seizures of 76 consecutive patients with mTLE explored by stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), including HS-mTLE (n = 52) and non-HS- mTLE (n = 24). Relevant results were obtained by a combination of spectral analysis and manual review.

Purpose: This work aims at investigating, via in-silico evaluations, the noise properties of an innovative scanning geometry in cone-beam CT (CBCT): eCT. This scanning geometry substitutes each of the projections in CBCT with a series of collimated projections acquired over an oscillating scanning trajectory. The analysis focused on the impact of the number of the projections per period (PP) on the noise characteristics.

The use of quantum mechanical potentials in protein-ligand affinity prediction is becoming increasingly feasible with growing computational power. To move forward, validation of such potentials on real-world challenges is necessary. To this end, we have collated an extensive set of over a thousand galectin inhibitors with known affinities and docked them into galectin-3.
