Metal-containing compounds form a large and rapidly expanding group of high-energy materials. Many compounds in this class attract the attention of non-professionals, who may attempt the illegal production of explosives. Several of these substances have been commercially available and pose significant danger if used by terrorists or for criminal purposes. Others are experimental compounds, kinds of curiosities, often created by pyrotechnics enthusiasts, which can present serious risks to both the creators and their immediate surroundings. The internet hosts a vast amount of information, including recipes and discussions on forums, private websites, social media, and more. This paper aims to review the variety of metal-containing explosives and discuss their appeal and potential accessibility to unauthorized individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the yeast C. jadinii grows on ethanol as a carbon source, looking specifically at growth rates, energy requirements, and biomass composition across different culture methods.
  • In ethanol-limited conditions, C. jadinii CBS 621 achieves effective biomass yields and demonstrates a stable protein content, even at low growth rates, indicating its potential for producing single-cell protein.
  • The research also finds that various C. jadinii strains grow rapidly on ethanol, and the results from chemostat cultures can help model production outcomes in larger fed-batch systems, highlighting differences in protein content due to cultivation conditions.

A new energetic material, 2-azido-4,7-nitroamino-1-imidazo[4,5-]pyridazine () with a highly sensitive azido group and its host-guest compounds (/HO and /HO), and energetic salts were obtained. With the guest and protons in host molecules, an abundant hydrogen bond system can be formed. This results in high crystal density and good sensitivity, which suggests that the host-guest strategy is a promising way to balance the contradiction between energy and sensitivity and provides a new path to obtain a new generation of high energetic materials.

An innovative synthesis of 5-((1-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl)-4-1,2,4-triazole-3,4-diamine (TMT) based on triazole and tetrazole frameworks bearing double amino groups was reported. It is worth mentioning that TMT is insensitive to impact and friction (IS > 40 J, FS > 360 N), thus enabling it to have an exceptional thermal decomposition behavior that is superior to RDX and TNT. Meanwhile, it also has relatively high energetic performance ( = 8.

As an important component of energetic materials, high-energy oxidant is one of the key materials to improve their energy. The oxidizability of oxidant directly determines the intensity of combustion or explosion reaction. It is generally believed that when the nature of reductant is certain, the stronger the oxidizability, the more intense the reaction.
