Collection and disposal of infective medical waste represents a well-known problem in all Italian and foreign hospitals. Pandemic events have increased the attention and sensitivity on the topic both from a legal/regulatory and technical-professional perspective. latest legislation introduced some noticeable modification in the perception of the problem changing the particularly precautionary approach largely exploited in the past, putting the sterilization procedures at the center of a more efficient management of such waste materials. Contemporary the specific industrial sector is developing and proposing on the market sterilization equipment able to minimizing the risk of pollution and reducing the volumes of material to be disposed of. This article addresses the topic with particular focus on the advantages, drawback and specific aspect to be considered for the realization of an in-situ sterilization for infective hospital waste. Different aspects related to biological, environmental, financial legal and medical liability risk, which become essential for allowing a careful evaluation and conscious choice, were also considered and discussed.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a medically important mosquito-borne orthoflavivirus, but no vaccines are currently available to prevent ZIKV-associated disease. In this study, we compared three recombinant chimeric viruses developed as candidate vaccine prototypes (rJEV/ZIKV, rJEV/ZIKV, and rJEV/ZIKV), in which the two neutralizing antibody-inducing prM and E genes from each of three genetically distinct ZIKV strains were used to replace the corresponding genes of the clinically proven live-attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine SA-14-2 (rJEV). In WHO-certified Vero cells (a cell line suitable for vaccine production), rJEV/ZIKV exhibited the slowest viral growth, formed the smallest plaques, and displayed a unique protein expression profile with the highest ratio of prM to cleaved M when compared to the other two chimeric viruses, rJEV/ZIKV and rJEV/ZIKV, as well as their vector, rJEV.

During a field study in the Baili Azalea Forest Area in Guizhou Province, China (27°12'N, 105°48'E) between May and July 2023, symptoms of leaf spot were observed on Franch. The incidence of leaf spot on leaves was about 12% in a field of 1 hm2, significantly reducing their ornamental and economic value. The affected leaves bore irregular, grey-white lesions with distinct dark brown borders, accompanied by black conidiomata.
