Graphene has garnered significant interest in optoelectronics due to its unique properties, including broad wavelength absorption and high mobility. However, its weak stability in ambient conditions requires encapsulation for practical applications. In this study, we investigate graphene CVD-grown field-effect transistors fabricated on Si/SiOwafers, encapsulated with aluminum oxide (AlO) of different thicknesses. We measure and analyze their optoelectronic response across wavelengths from near-ultraviolet to near-infrared. We find that, while having a negligible role in the photogating process, the AlOlayer leads to stable and reproducible transferring curves operating in ambient conditions for over a month, with stable responsivities up to 1.5 A/W at the shortest wavelength. Moreover, the transferring curves are stable at elevated temperatures up to 107 °C. We also show that the sample performance can be tuned by changing the thickness of the Si/SiOand AlOlayer which brings further perspectives in developing robust sample technologies, especially in the ultraviolet region where the responsivity increases. Aluminum oxide encapsulated graphene-based photodetectors can thus be interesting for applications in air and at elevated temperatures.

A stimuli-responsive drug delivery system based on konjac glucomannan, carboxymethyl chitosan and mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles.

A stimuli-responsive drug delivery system is developed for controlled delivery of curcumin (Cur) and chemo-photothermal therapy of breast cancer (BC). Cur is first loaded into mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles (mPDA NPs) by π-π stacking, and then the Cur loaded mPDA NPs (mPDA NPs@Cur) are encapsulated in the hydrogels prepared through the crosslinking of oxidized konjac glucomannan (oxKGM) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS). Owing to the pH-sensitivity of the hydrogels and the outstanding photothermal conversion capability of mPDA NPs, the release of Cur from the hydrogels can be greatly accelerated in acidic media upon near infrared (NIR) irradiation.

pH-sensitive chitosan/sodium alginate/calcium chloride hydrogel beads for potential oral delivery of rice bran bioactive peptides.

Food Chem

December 2024

Molecular Nutrition Branch, National Engineering Research Center of Rice and By-product Deep Processing/College of Food Science and Engineering, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Changsha, Hunan 410004, China. Electronic address:

Although rice bran active peptide (RBAP) has potent antioxidant properties, its practical applications have been limited by its low bioavailability. In this study, we hypothesized that pH-responsive hydrogels prepared from the ionic gelation between chitosan and alginate could be a promising delivery system of short-chain peptides, like RBAP, for protecting them from chemical degradation during digestion and improving their functionality. The hydrogel beads retained RBAP in the gastric environment due to strong interactions between two biopolymers and RBAP, followed by a sustained release of more than 70 % peptide in the intestinal condition, thus improving its gastrointestinal stability.

Resveratrol-Loaded Versatile Nanovesicle for Alopecia Therapy via Comprehensive Strategies.

Int J Nanomedicine

Introduction: Alopecia is a systemic disease with multiple contributing factors. Effective treatment is challenging when only hair growth mechanisms are targeted while ignoring the role of maintaining hair follicle microenvironment homeostasis, which is crucial for cell growth and angiogenesis. Oxidative stress and inflammation are major disruptors of this microenvironment, leading to inhibited cell proliferation and compromised hair follicle circulation.

Aims: Carboxylesterase (Ces)1f is implicated in protection against hepatic inflammation, but it is unclear whether the enzyme has an influence in polarization of Kupffer cells (KCs), the innate immune cells mediating hepatic inflammatory injury including acute liver failure (ALF). In the present study, we aim to explore KC polarization induced by Ces1f in mice with lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN)-induced ALF. We adopted a novel delivery system, β-1,3-D-glucan-encapsulated Endoporter-siRNA particles, to specifically target KC Ces1f knockdown via tail vein injection in mice.

Microencapsulation of Pickering nanoemulsions containing walnut oil stabilized using soy protein-curcumin composite nanoparticles: Fabrication and evaluation of a novel plant-based milk substitute.

Food Chem

December 2024

Plant protein-stabilized Pickering nanoemulsions show potential as plant-based milk substitutes; however, their stability is challenged by mechanical stress during transportation and oxidative deterioration during storage. Herein, soybean isolate protein-curcumin composite nanoparticle (SPI-Cur-NPs)-stabilized Pickering nanoemulsions were converted into microcapsule powders via spray-drying with maltodextrin (MD), trehalose anhydrous (TA), and inulin (IN) as wall materials. Robust intermolecular hydrogen bonds and an amorphous structure were formed using composite wall materials, reducing microcapsule surface fissures while improving encapsulation rate (92.
