Evidence suggests young adults in post-secondary school experienced increased distress during the COVID-19 pandemic, but students' experiences likely varied. Effects may have also changed over time as students adapted. This study examined the mental health of students with and without preexisting health conditions at two points during the pandemic (winter 2020/2021 and spring/summer 2021). Participants ( = 1465) completed a baseline and follow-up questionnaire assessing their health history, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, stress, and COVID-19-related worry and perceived vulnerability of severe infection. At both time points, students with preexisting health conditions reported greater distress than those without preexisting health conditions. Stress increased from time 1 to time 2 for all students, and participants with preexisting health conditions significantly increased in their COVID-19 perceived vulnerability of severe infection over time. Findings highlight the need for additional and ongoing mental health supports for vulnerable students throughout the pandemic.

This study compared the dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 viral shedding in saliva between wild-type virus-infected and Omicron-infected household cohorts. Pre-existing immunity in participants likely shortens the viral RNA shedding duration and lowers viral load peaks. Frequent saliva sampling can be a convenient tool to study viral load dynamics.

Aim: Tissue clearance is a rapidly evolving technology that allows for the three-dimensional imaging of intact biological tissues. Preexisting tissue-clearing techniques, such as Passive Clarity Technique (PACT) and Clear Unobstructed Brain Imaging Cocktails and Computational Analysis (CUBIC), clear tissues adequately but have distinct disadvantages, such as taking extensive time to clear tissues and degradation of endogenous tissue fluorescence. We developed a new tissue-clearing technique combining PACT and CUBIC protocols to map the neural lineages expressing the transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) receptor.

The Post COVID-19 condition (PCC) is a complex disease affecting health and everyday functioning. This is well reflected by a patient's inability to work (ITW). In this study, we aimed to investigate factors associated with ITW (1) and to design a machine learning-based model for predicting ITW (2) twelve months after baseline.

Importance: Hurricanes are associated with a wide range of adverse health effects in the general population and are increasing in frequency and severity due to global climate change. Due to prior military exposures and distinct sociodemographic characteristics, US veterans may be more vulnerable than the general population to negative health effects of hurricanes.
Objective: To evaluate whether acute care mental health visits among US veterans were associated with exposure to hurricanes.
Introduction: Research has consistently shown that the prevalence of burnout symptoms (such as emotional and physical exhaustion, cynicism, or lack of interest in schoolwork, the sense of incompetence, or the feeling that you cannot be effective) in medical students is greater than the prevalence in the general population. Students with preexisting anxiety, depression, mood disorder or other psychological distress are more vulnerable to burnout. It is estimated that at least half of U.
