Introduction: Some stressors, like the death of a partner, are common and rigorously studied, while others, such as those related to climate change or social media, are just emerging and in need of systematic research. The New Jersey Population Health Cohort (NJHealth) Study aims to characterise established and emerging stressors and delineate the pathways through which they influence health, especially among groups likely to experience chronic exposure to stressors including immigrants, people of colour, multigenerational families and low-income families.

Methods And Analysis: A prospective cohort, the NJHealth Study is recruiting 8000 NJ residents aged 14 and older using probabilistic and purposive methods to include members of multigenerational families, marginalised racial/ethnic and low-income populations, and recent immigrant groups.

Ecological restoration is a promising approach to alleviate eutrophication. However, its impacts on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the underlying microbial mechanisms in different habitats of lakes remain unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we measured carbon dioxide (CO), methane (CH) and nitrous oxide (NO) fluxes at both water-air and sediment-water interfaces of eutrophic (Caohai) and restored area (Dapokou) of Dianchi Lake, a typical eutrophic lake in China.

High temperature and cardiovascular disease in Australia under different climatic, demographic, and adaptive scenarios.

Eur Heart J

March 2025

School of Public Health, The University of Adelaide, Level 4, 50 Rundle Mall Plaza, Rundle Mall, Adelaide, South Australia 5000, Australia.

Background And Aims: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death globally and in Australia, is sensitive to heat exposure. This study assesses the burden of CVD attributable to high temperatures across Australia and projects future burden in the context of climate change.

Methods: Disability-adjusted life years for CVD, including years of life lost and years lived with disability, were sourced from the Australian Burden of Disease database.

Exacerbated anthropogenic water pollution under climate change and urbanization.

School of Geography, South China Normal University, Guangzhou 510631, China; The National Key Laboratory of Water Disaster Prevention, Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development, Hohai University, Nanjing 210098, China. Electronic address:

Anthropogenic water pollution severely threatens human society worldwide, yet the water pollution induced by combined sewer overflow (CSO) remains unclear within climate change and urbanization. Hence, this study integrated the general circulation model (GCM) and shared socioeconomic pathway (SSP) projections with water quality modeling, to analyze spatiotemporal patterns and future trends of CSO-induced water pollution under changing environments. Results demonstrated that the given area (Dresden, Germany) encountered significant CSO-induced pollution, with 14,860 kg (95 % confidence interval, CI: 9,040-15,630 kg) of particulate matter (SS), organic compounds (COD, TN, TP), and pharmaceuticals (Carbamazepine, Gabapentin, Ciprofloxacin, Sulfamethoxazole) being discharged annually.

Spatiotemporal evolution of vegetation phenology and its response to environmental factors in the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River Basin.

State Key Laboratory of Water Engineering Ecology and Environment in Arid Area,Xi'an University of Technology, Xi'an, 710048, Shaanxi, China; Key Laboratory of Hydrologic-cycle and Hydrodynamic System of Ministry of Water Resources, Hohai University, Nanjing, 210098, China.

As climate change accelerates, understanding the mechanisms of ecosystem phenology in vulnerable regions is crucial for terrestrial environments. This research systematically used remote sensing data to study the dynamic changes in vegetation phenology in the upper and middle Yellow River Basin (UMYRB), examined the effects of environmental shifts on vegetation phenology, and quantified the contributions of different driving factors. The key findings are as follows: (1) As elevation and latitude increase, the start of the growing season (SOGS) is generally delayed, particularly in the northwest and northeast, where it typically occurs between days 140 and 180.
