Background: Occurrence of life-threatening scorpion sting in adults is a rare entity compared with children. Different cases of organ failure following scorpion sting have been reported but complications, such as acute toxic myocarditis, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary edema, acute kidney injury and toxic hepatitis occurring simultaneously in adult patients is exceedingly rare with no prior documented similar report. This case report explores the unique presentation of these complications occurring simultaneously and their management in resource limited setting.

The high mortality rate from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is due primarily to challenges in early diagnosis and the development of drug resistance in advanced stages. Many first-line chemotherapeutic drugs induce ferroptosis, a form of programmed cell death dependent on ferrous iron-mediated oxidative stress, suggesting that drug resistance and ensuing tumor progression may in part stem from reduced ferroptosis. Since circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been shown to influence tumor development, we examined whether specific circRNAs may regulate drug-induced ferroptosis in HCC.

Immune-Mediated Liver Injury From Checkpoint Inhibitor: An Evolving Frontier With Emerging Challenges.

Liver Int

February 2025

APHP, Hôpital Paul-Brousse, Centre Hépato-Biliaire, Inserm, Unité 1193, Université Paris-Saclay, FHU Hepatinov, Villejuif, France.

Over the past decade, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed the treatment of cancer, though they come with the risk of immune-related adverse (irAEs) events such as hepatotoxicity or Immune-mediated Liver Injury from Checkpoint Inhibitors (ILICI). ILICI is a serious irAE that, when severe, requires cessation of ICI and initiation of immunosuppression. Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTLs) play a central role in ILICI; however, they are just part of the picture as immunotherapy broadly impacts all aspects of the immune microenvironment and can directly and indirectly activate innate and adaptive immune cells.

Background And Aims: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a serious condition, typically in individuals without prior liver disease. Drug-induced ALF (DIALF) constitutes a major portion of ALF cases. Our research aimed to identify potential genetic predispositions to DIALF.

Super-Resolution Mitochondrial Fluorescent Probe for Accurate Monitoring of Drug-Induced Liver Injury.

Anal Chem

January 2025

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Tumor Imaging Equipment Development and Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment Technology, Linyi University, Linyi 276000, China.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) has emerged as an urgent clinical challenge. It is characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction in liver cells, which leads to abnormal changes in HO levels within the mitochondria. Super-resolution imaging allows for the observation of the fine structure of mitochondria at the nanometer scale, potentially enabling the detection of mitochondrial HO levels during DILI at the subcellular organelle level.
