Background: Cognitive tests of naming ability have been shown to have diagnostic and prognostic utility in both mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD; Taler & Phillips, 2008). The Boston Naming Test (BNT) is the most common naming test, which consists of 60 black-and-white drawings and takes 20-30 minutes to administer. Retrospective analysis has shown that administering the BNT in an adaptive fashion could result in a comparable measure of the patient's naming ability in only 8 items instead of 60.

Background: 'Dependence' has been proposed as a measurable health outcome reflecting the overall impact of disease progression in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the meaning and relevance of 'dependence' in early symptomatic AD (MCI and mild AD dementia) have not been previously investigated. Aims of the current research were to (1) explore the concept of 'dependence' from the perspective of caregivers of patients with early symptomatic AD, (2) assess the content validity of the Dependence Scale (DS; Stern, 1994), a 13-item scale evaluating patient dependence based on a caregiver interview, and (3) explore the relevance of newly incorporated DS rater guidance clarifying potential ambiguities in item phrasing.

Background: The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) stands as a prominent cognitive impairment screening tool, finding widespread use globally and existing in official versions across 14 languages, including Spanish. Despite this, the challenges emerge due to the extensive variations within the Spanish language, which is not only the fourth most spoken language worldwide but also possesses significant geographic diversity, particularly evident in regions like Peru. Here, the intersection of regional nuances, low educational backgrounds, and culturally distinct tasks complicates the application of a standard MoCA version.

Background: Despite evidence that Alzheimer's disease (AD) related pathological changes occur earlier in women than men, women are diagnosed later. To address this care disparity, the Evaluating Memory as Part of Women's Routine Care (EMPOWER) program was established to integrate cognitive screening into routine gynecological well-woman visits. Recent work has demonstrated the feasibility of conducting subjective cognitive screening at the well-woman visit.
