The relationship between the scientific method and clinical practice was discussed in an earlier column. Another column described the application of analog scales to clinical practice. This column will discuss how the combination of these 2 strategies can be used to increase the efficiency and completeness of outpatient psychiatric management.

Introduction: Individuals with pre-diabetes are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which makes them prone to serious complications such as stroke, kidney failure, blindness and lower-limb amputation. Highly efficient photocatalysts for degrading persistent antibiotics and synthetic dye pollutants under visible light are crucial for sustainable environmental remediation. In this study, we engineered a novel BiMoO (BMO)/NiAl-LDH (layered double hydroxide) hybrid catalyst with a unique 2D/2D heterostructure, optimized for the visible-light-driven elimination of ciprofloxacin (CPF) and hazardous synthetic dyes such as rhodamine B and methylene blue. The optimized BMO-30/LDH hybrid demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic performance, achieving nearly complete degradation of CPF and synthetic dyes with high mineralization efficiency, surpassing many previously reported state-of-the-art photocatalysts.

Autophagy is a lysosome-dependent cellular degradation pathway that responds to a variety of environmental and cellular stresses, which is defective in aging and age-related diseases, therefore, targeting autophagy with small-molecule activators has potential therapeutic benefits. In this study, we successfully completed the first total synthesis of Ivesinol, an identified antibacterial natural product, and efficiently constructed a library of its analogs. To measure the effect of Ivesinol analogs on autophagic activity, we performed cell imaging-based screening approach, and observed that several Ivesinol analogs exhibited potent autophagy-regulating activity.
