Two new species of Macrostomus Wiedemann are described, M. megatarsus sp. nov. from Brazil (Pará and Amapá) and French Guiana (Patawa and Régina) and M. polleti sp. nov. from Brazil (Amapá) and French Guiana (Mitaraka). Both species are treated in the new Macrostomus megatarsus species-group, which is defined based on male and female spotted wings, veins R2+3 and R4+5 sinuous leaving cell r2+3 that is subapically narrowed, and female legs with mid femur, hind femur, and hind tibia bearing dorsal and ventral pennate scales. A key to species is presented and the geographical distributions, restricted to the extreme east of the Amazon Basin in the North Amazonia biogeographical component, are mapped. Additionally, the first key to Macrostomus species-groups is presented.

, a new species of Gentianaceae from Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated. This new species is similar to , but differs by the fact that the plant is glabrous and has 1-4 flowering stems, well-developed basal vegetative rosettes, a pale purple corolla with dark purple spots on the tube and erose or denticulate, non-fringed plicae margins. It also somewhat resembles , but can be easily distinguished by having shorter stems, entire leaf margins, smooth, shorter sepal lobes, spotted corolla tubes, non-fringed plicae and narrowly winged seeds.

Beetle elytra act as natural protective covers and effectively shield their flexible abdomens and fragile hindwings from damage. The existing studies have attributed this contribution of the elytra to its honeycomb structures. In this combined experimental and theoretical study, we used the seven-spotted ladybird beetle to demonstrate that both biological morphology and the hollow structure of the dome-like elytra combined to reduce damage during falling.

Colour polymorphisms have long served as model systems in evolutionary studies and continue to inform about processes involved in the origin and dynamics of biodiversity. Modern sequencing tools allow for evaluating whether phenotypic differences between morphs reflect genetic differentiation rather than developmental plasticity, and for investigating whether polymorphisms represent intermediate stages of diversification towards speciation. We investigated phenotypic and genetic differentiation between two colour morphs of the butterfly Fabriciana adippe using a combination of ddRAD-sequencing and comparisons of body size, colour patterns and optical properties of bright wing spots.
