The genus Megelopelma was erected by Enderlein in 1910 for a species from Nova Teutônia district, Seara municipality in Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Edwards, in 1940, added three Neotropical species to the genus and no more species have been described so far, nor with the recent Diptera surveys in the Neotropics, which did not sample the genus. With a distance of more than 1,000 km from the genus type-locality and more than eighty years since the last species was described, we present a new species of Megalopelma from conservation units of Brazilian Cerrado, the central area of the Neotropical region, including photos, a distribution map, and a brief discussion regarding its potential use as a biological indicator for long-term monitoring.

Stingless bees are important pollinators in tropical regions, but their survival and behavior have been impacted by various factors, including exposure to insecticides. Here, we evaluated the lethal and sublethal effects of commercial formulations of two widely used insecticides, flupyradifurone (FPF formulation), and cyantraniliprole (CY formulation), on Melipona beecheii and Nannotrigona perilampoides. The study involved oral exposure of bees to insecticides, calculation of the lethal concentration (LC) and the lethal time (LT), and evaluation of walking and flight take-off activities.

Chironomidae have a wide distribution in Neotropical aquatic ecosystems and are predominant in the macroinvertebrate biota of these ecosystems, such as shallow lakes and swamps. Background: The endosymbiotic relationship between Wolbachia bacteria and insects has been of interest for many years due to their diverse types of host reproductive phenotypic manipulation and potential role in the host's evolutionary history and population dynamics. Even though infection rates are high in Lepidoptera and specifically in butterflies, and reproductive manipulation is present in these taxa, less attention has been given to understanding how Wolbachia is acquired and maintained in their natural populations, across and within species having continental geographical distributions.
Results: We used whole genome sequencing data to investigate the phylogenetics, demographic history, and infection rate dynamics of Wolbachia in four species of the Spicauda genus of skipper butterflies (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae), a taxon that presents sympatric and often syntopic distribution, with drastic variability in species abundance in the Neotropical region.

The relationships between environmental characteristics and species richness in the grasslands of the Colombian Orinoquia are presented and analyzed using an ordinal logistic regression model. Ordinal and scale covariates were included, and their bivariate significance was assessed using Spearman's rho and Kendall's Tau-b. The covariates that showed statistical significance with the weighted richness thresholds (WRT) and defined the model were the soil depth and the soil moisture regime, both of which had positive correlations.
