Objective: The relationship between different power equations and the severity of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate various power equations: total mechanical power, total elastic power (comprising elastic static and elastic dynamic power), and resistive power, in a cohort of mechanically ventilated patients with and without ARDS. Bayesian analysis was employed to refine estimates and quantify uncertainty by incorporating a priori distributions.

Background/aim: Acute lung injury (ALI) is an important pathological process in acute respiratory distress syndrome; however, feasible and effective treatment strategies for ALI are limited. Recent studies have suggested that stem cell-derived exosomes can ameliorate ALI; however, there remains no consensus on the protocols used, including the route of administration. This study aimed to identify the appropriate route of administration of canine stem cell-derived exosomes (cSC-Exos) in ALI.

We tested Pekin ducks with playbacks of 5 different vocalizations plus a no noise and white noise stimulus as our controls (N = 15 ducks/sex/treatment). The "AM long" call is a common vocalization made by both sexes. "Honk" is also produced by both sexes and is thought to be an alarm or distress call.

Introduction: Patients with blunt chest wall injuries and rib fractures are known to have high rates of atelectasis, pneumonia, pulmonary contusion, and can develop acute respiratory distress syndrome. This can lead to ventilator requirement and dependence, deconditioning secondary to uncontrolled pain, and increased hospital length of stay (LOS). Many studies in the literature have developed triage algorithms in patients with rib fractures to guide disposition and management, and several institutions have gone on to describe their institution-specific management protocols to decrease complications related to traumatic rib fractures.
