Fully Substituted Thiophene Synthesis via (3 + 2) with Thiadiazoles.

Published: December 2024

A method to access highly substituted dihydrothiophenes and the corresponding thiophenes is reported. This strategy complements traditional stepwise synthesis by coupling readily accessible bicyclic 1,2,3 thiadiazoles with alkenes in a modular, Rh-catalyzed formal (3 + 2) cycloaddition. Application of this method to an array of novel thiadiazoles generates densely functionalized dihydrothiophenes that can be subsequently oxidized to the corresponding thiophene products.

Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HpC) forms a liquid crystalline phase and is thought to have a rod-like shape in aqueous solution. The viscoelastic behaviors of aqueous solutions of HpC samples with average molar substitution numbers ( ∼ 3.8) and weight-average molar masses ( = 36-740 kg mol) were examined over a wide concentration () range, and the results were discussed based on a concept of rod particle suspension rheology.

Analysis of the haemodynamic changes caused by surgical and transcatheter aortic valve replacements by means fluid-structure interaction simulations.

Aortic valve replacements, both surgical and transcatheter, are nowadays widely employed treatments. Although clinically effective, these procedures are correlated with potentially severe clinical complications which can be associated with the non-physiological haemodynamics that they establish. In this work, the fluid dynamics changes produced by surgical and transcatheter aortic valve replacements are analysed and compared with an ideal healthy native valve configuration, employing advanced fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations.

Introduction: Phencyclidine, a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic effects, is commonly abused as a recreational drug. Phencyclidine analogs are compounds produced by substitutions of the phenyl and piperidine rings of phencyclidine. Illegal use of phencyclidine and its analogs has symptoms such as addiction, confusion, and increased tendencies toward violence.

Widespread anthelmintic resistance has complicated the management of parasitic nematodes. Resistance to the benzimidazole (BZ) drug class is nearly ubiquitous in many species and is associated with mutations in beta-tubulin genes. However, mutations in beta-tubulin alone do not fully explain all BZ resistance.

Background: The magnitude of inbreeding depression depends on the recessive burden of the individual, which can be traced back to the hidden (recessive) inbreeding load among ancestors. However, these ancestors carry different alleles at potentially deleterious loci and therefore there is individual variability of this inbreeding load. Estimation of the additive genetic value for inbreeding load is possible using a decomposition of inbreeding in partial inbreeding components due to ancestors.
