  • Apalochrini is a tribe within the family Melyridae, with 13 genera found in China, but the genus Champion has not been recorded there until now.
  • A recent expedition in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province resulted in the collection of specimens previously unidentified in this region.
  • The study provides detailed diagnostic characteristics for the Champion genus and includes an updated key to identify the male characters of Apalochrini in China.

Article Abstract

Background: Apalochrini is a tribe of the family Melyridae characterised by the shortened pedicel, with 13 genera recorded in China at present. Champion and Pascoe of Apalochrini are distributed in Asia and Southeast Asia, with the former genus extending to Australia, but not being found in China. In a recent expedition in the mangrove forests of Zhangzhou City (Fujian Province), eastern China, specimens of Asano & Kawashima, 2010 and (Wittmer, 1956) were collected.

New Information: Champion is recorded from China for the first time and is newly recorded for Fujian Province. Diagnostic characters of is provided and is re-described in details. An updated key to genera of the Chinese Apalochrini, based on male characters, is given.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create a new prognostic model to estimate the risk of pulmonary complications after elective surgery, which is the leading cause of post-surgery death.
  • Data from a large international cohort of over 86,000 patients was used, applying machine learning techniques to identify risk factors for complications like pneumonia and respiratory distress.
  • The model, named the GSU-Pulmonary Score, was validated with additional cohorts and is available as an online tool to assist in patient care and resource management, especially important during pandemic recovery.

More than 4700 nominal family-group names (including names for fossils and ichnotaxa) are nomenclaturally available in the order Coleoptera. Since each family-group name is based on the concept of its type genus, we argue that the stability of names used for the classification of beetles depends on accurate nomenclatural data for each type genus. Following a review of taxonomic literature, with a focus on works that potentially contain type species designations, we provide a synthesis of nomenclatural data associated with the type genus of each nomenclaturally available family-group name in Coleoptera.

Background: Governments internationally have invested hugely in the implementation and scale-up of school-based physical activity interventions, but have little evidence of how to best sustain these interventions once active implementation support ceases. This study will assess the effectiveness of a multi-strategy sustainability intervention on classroom teachers' sustainment of energisers (short 3-5 min physical activity breaks during class-time) scheduled across the school day from baseline to 12 and 24-month follow-up.

Methods: A cluster randomised controlled trial will be conducted in 50 primary schools within the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee and Northern New South Wales (NSW) Local Health Districts of NSW Australia.
