With the depletion of fossil fuels and increasing pollution problems, green and sustainable energy supply attracts worldwide attention. Hydrogen is a green and high-density energy substance, and photocatalytic hydrogen generation is an effective and sustainable method. Therefore, developing high-performance photocatalysts plays a crucial role in practical application. Porous frameworks with large surface areas and diversified structures are considered promising candidates for photocatalysts. This review summarizes the recent progress on porous frameworks and their derivatives through fine-tuning structural components in terms of building monomers, functional groups, and metal hybridization for photocatalytic production of hydrogen. A detailed correlation is conducted between the structural features of porous frameworks and photocatalysis capability. In addition, we summarized the advantages of porous materials for photocatalytic hydrogen production and future development.

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs), as a classical kind of microporous materials, have attracted substantial interests considering their well-defined framework structures, unique physicochemical properties and low cost. However, PBAs typically adopt cubic structure that features small pore size and low specific surface area, which greatly limits their practical applications in various fields ranging from gas adsorption/separation to energy conversion/storage and biomedical treatments. Here we report the facile and general synthesis of unconventional hexagonal open PBA structures.

Ln-MOFs, composed of lanthanide ions and functional organic ligands, are porous materials with tunable structures and unique luminescent properties. However, the interplay between ligand AIE properties and the framework's "antenna effect" on MOF morphology is understudied. Here, Tb-D-Cam-TPTB was synthesized via solvothermal method using TPTB (persulfurated arene) as the primary ligand, D-Cam as the auxiliary ligand, and Tb3+ as the metal ion.

Vinylene-linked Covalent Organic Frameworks (V-2D-COFs) are a class of promising porous organic materials that feature fully π-conjugated structures, high crystallinity, ultrahigh chemical stability, and extraordinary optoelectronic properties. However, the types of reactions and the availability of monomers for synthesizing linked COFs are considerably limited by the irreversibility of the C═C bond, and the complete π-conjugated structure restricts their in-depth research in hydrophilicity, membrane materials, and proton conductivity. Postsynthetic modification (PSM), which can avoid these problems by incorporating functional moieties into the predetermined framework, provides an alternative way to construct diverse V-2D-COFs.

This work presents the synthesis and characterization of three isomorphous lanthanide-based metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) (Ln3+ = Eu (1), Tb (2), and Sm (3)) supported by a pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide-based linker offering appended arylcarboxylate groups. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies highlight that these Ln-MOFs present three-dimensional porous architectures offering large cavities decorated with hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) groups. These Ln-MOFs display noteworthy luminescent characteristics.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise in heterogeneous metal catalysis benefiting from their robust, crystalline, and porous structures. However, synthetic challenges persist in prolonged crystallization times, limited metal loading, and uncertain coordination environments. Here, we present the rapid crystallization and versatile metalation of new acetylhydrazone-linked COFs (AH-COFs) by condensation of ketone and hydrazide components, featuring full conversion within 30 min under open-air and mild conditions.
