AI Article Synopsis

  • * While there are existing transcriptome resources for adult bugs, information on juvenile stages was lacking until now.
  • * This study presents new sequence data that reveals 21,380 potential transcripts linked to genes that show varying expression, opening up opportunities for further research on gene functions.

Article Abstract

The southern green stink bug, (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is a serious agricultural pest insect causing economic damage in the western hemisphere. Although transcriptome resources exist for adults of this species at both midgut-only and whole-insect levels, data for juvenile developmental stadia are not currently available. Sequence data reported in this study close this gap, providing a substantial increase of extrinsic evidence for use in improving gene annotations in the southern green stink bug genome project, for example. Analysis of these data identify 21,380 putative transcripts associated with differentially expressed genes, providing a list of potential targets for downstream experimental characterization of gene function.

Background: Laji-He is a traditional rice-based snack from the Beibu Gulf region in southern China. In the Beibu Gulf region, "Laji-He" (literally "garbage He") signifies the removal of toxins from the body, making it a truly "green" food. Laji-He holds essential cultural and medicinal value, incorporating various medicinal plants into its preparation.

Background And Aims: Resolving the phylogeny of hornworts is critical in understanding the evolution of key morphological characters that are unique to the group, including the pyrenoid. Extensive phylogenomic analyses have revealed unexpected complexities in the placement of Leiosporoceros, the previously identified sister taxon to other hornworts. We explore the role of incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) and ancient reticulation in resolving interrelationships and comprehending the diversification and evolutionary processes within hornworts.

The largest risk factor for dementia is age. Heterochronic blood exchange studies have uncovered age-related blood factors that demonstrate 'pro-aging' or 'pro-youthful' effects on the mouse brain. The clinical relevance and combined effects of these factors for humans is unclear.

With increasing concern about the environmental pollution of petrochemical plastics, people are constantly exploring environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative materials. Compared with petrochemical materials, cellulose has overwhelming superiority in terms of mechanical properties, thermal properties, cost, and biodegradability. However, the flammability of cellulose hinders its practical application to a certain extent, so improving the fire-retardant properties of cellulose nanofiber-based materials has become a research focus.

With years of green tide outbreaks in the Southern Yellow Sea (SYS) and climate change, early findings over multiple years suggest that the green tide may originate from various pathways. Previous studies have identified attached outbreak species of U. prolifera in the intertidal zone along the SYS coast.
